Hiking Table Mountain in Cape Town is an exhilarating experience that truly lives up to its reputation. The trail options are numerous, ranging from challenging routes like Platteklip Gorge to more scenic paths, each offering breathtaking views of Cape Town, the Atlantic Ocean, and beyond. This hike is a rewarding challenge, and the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit is unmatched.
The trek itself can be demanding, especially for those less accustomed to steep inclines or rugged terrain. The rocky paths and switchbacks require good stamina and sure footing, making the journey as much a physical challenge as it is a visual feast. That said, every effort is worth it as you ascend through unique vegetation, spot wildlife, and are treated to panoramic vistas that seem to expand with each step higher.
For those who are less experienced hikers, or if you’re simply looking to enjoy the views without the strenuous climb, the cable car is an absolute must. It offers a smooth ride to the summit while providing 360-degree views of the city below and the dramatic cliffs of the mountain. It’s a fantastic way to experience the majesty of Table Mountain without breaking too much of a sweat.
Once at the top, you’re greeted by a stunning plateau with paths to explore, lookouts to enjoy, and views that stretch for miles. From here, you can see the bustling city of Cape Town, Robben Island, and the shimmering waters of the ocean—all framed by the striking cliffs and rock formations. It’s a scene that captures the essence of the region’s beauty and makes every moment spent here unforgettable.
Whether you choose to hike up or take the cable car, a visit to Table Mountain is well worth it. The combination of natural beauty, incredible views, and the unique experience of standing atop one of the world’s most iconic peaks makes this a must-do activity when in Cape Town. For both adventure seekers and casual tourists, it’s a trip that promises lasting memories and...
Read moreMy partner and I booked a private hike up table mountain. Riaan the company owner was awesome with the planning. I can be a bit afraid on exposed heights and ridges but am otherwise a competent hill-walker. Riaan asked me lots of sensible questions about our fitness, what type of exposed heights/scrambling we could handle, and he selected the perfect route for us up Porcupine Ravine. It's a lesser walked route but ever so pretty, challenging but just the right level so he couldn't have chosen better for us.
The weather wasn't great on the day but our guide Mike was just the best, we had a blast! We got on with him so well and he had so much interesting stuff to say about all the plants, wildlife and history of South Africa. Plus helped me with the few tricky bits of scrambling which gave me lots of confidence.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Riaan and Mike. Awesome guys, knowledgeable and ever so helpful with the planning and on the...
Read moreDid the Kasteelspoort route twice with this operator - once as part of a group, second time (a year later) as private tour for my family (husband, toddler and myself). Both times had Stephanie as my guide and honestly I she's part of the reason why I wanted to climb this route again :) Such an amazing and experienced guide, so knowledgeable (would never been able to figure all those interesting flora, fauna and random South African facts!) and SO SO SO kind. Steph made a nice hike with good views into a totally unforgettable family bonding experience and made us feel so welcome in this beautiful country!!
See you Guys next year maybe on a different route...
