Waryong Temple — Local services in Seoul

We went after this place on our Namsan hike as all the traveling guides raved about it. We don't get the hype. It is a very badly maintained shrine with lots of piled-up trash between its buildings. There was also a very rude lady there who shushed me away even though it was open...go figure! The only thing pretty is the setting and the stairway leading up to it. In any case, don't bother...

Like others, we found this by happenstance as we toodled along the trail towards Namsan. We were there in October last year, and it had rained a little, earlier. I think that gave it an even more interesting air. Hearing the birds in the quiet was a magical experience in those surroundings. It may not be one of the more glamorous temples/shrines, but the atmosphere that day...

이곳은 삼국지연의에 나오는 유명한 유비의 軍師 제갈량을 모신 사당이다. 제갈 량(諸葛亮, 181년 ~ 234년)은 중국 삼국시대 촉나라의 軍師로 자는 공명(孔明)이며 서주 낭야국 양도현(陽都縣) 사람이다. 별호는 와룡(臥龍) 또는 복룡(伏龍). 후한 말 유비를 도와 촉한을 건국하는 제업을 이루었다. 형주 남부 4군을 발판으로 유비의 익천을 도왔다. 221년 유비가 제위에 오르자, 승상에 취임하였고, 유비 사후 유선을 보좌하여 촉한의 정치를 주장하였다. 227년부터 지속적인 북벌(北伐)을 일으켜 8년 동안 5번에 걸쳐 위나라의 옹·양주 지역을 공략하였다. 234년 5차 북벌 중 오장원(五丈原) 진중에서 54세의 나이로 병사하였다. 중국 역사상 지략과 충의의 전략가로 많은 이들의 추앙을 받았다. 그가 북벌을 시작하면서 유선에게 올린 출사표는 현재까지 전해 내려오며, 이를 보고 울지 않으면 충신이 아니라고 평하는 명문으로 꼽히고 있다. 이 廟는 건립연대가 불확실하며 1924년에 화재로 소실된 것을 1934년에 다시 지었고 1976년에 보수하였다. 경내에는 와룡묘, 단군성전, 삼성각이 좁은 경사지에 측면으로 있으며, 모두 한옥의 기와 지붕이다. 와룡묘에는 제갈량과 관우상이 모셔져 있으며, 단군성전에는 단군상이 모셔져 있고, 삼성각은 산신과 칠성, 獨聖을 모시고 있다. 중국의 신앙과 우리의 토속신앙이 결합된 독특한...
