Unfortunately not a positive experience at this dive centre. I had never dived before and was not properly trained to go into the water.
On arrival I completed training and was soon fitted with my equipment and put into the practice water pool. I was very panicked and could not get used to the breathing equipment, at no fault of the instructors. Everyone else on the discover scuba course had some diving experience so I could not get used to the equipment quickly enough and was not given enough time to adjust. I was soon encouraged to get on the boat to head into the sea, after 10-20 minutes of going underwater and breathing for the first time and being very panicked and feeling unable to breathe as I was not used to the equipment yet. There was no training regarding anything else- it felt like no practice, just ‘do’. I had not gone deep at all but was promised an instructor would be with me the whole time and I would be looked after.
After arriving at the dive site, I was told I had to dive backwards off the boat into the water, despite the fact I could barely use the breathing apparatus, as I was told there was no other way in which I couldn’t understand because the boat had a ladder… I was told afterwards by someone else on the course that they were not made to do this on their very first dive. I was thrown into the sea with flippers which I had also never used before and felt like I was drowning as I didn’t know how to use my equipment properly it control my position in the water. It was scary and humiliating. I was very panicked and the instructors wanted me to go deeper under the water. I felt very rushed and had still not had time to get used to breathing calmly underwater. After a few attempts I told them I was not going to go continue with the dive as I didn’t feel safe and did not have the environment to comfortably learn to use my equipment- the other divers were already ahead and far under the water and I would not have felt safe yet at any depth.
Instead I was told I could go ‘snorkelling’. It turns out this was not snorkelling but instead I was left in my scuba equipment to go and swim by myself with the snorkelling group. This didn’t help much as I still could barely breathe with the equipment and was now left in it by myself with no instructor to buddy with me (which you are supposed to have when diving). I was hoping to use a snorkel and get out of the diving gear that I was struggling with. As I had been left to get on with my snorkel/shallow dive session I eventually got used to using the breathing equipment by myself as I was not pressured and rushed. Nobody was checking my air levels though and I had not been showed how to do this or qualified to do so…
I never got used to my position though, and on the boat back I realised looking at the other divers how loosely my equipment was fitted and therefore the air tank was moving about so I couldn’t keep balanced in the water. Earlier in the dive one of the divemasters had to adjust my flippers as she said she could see they weren’t fitted properly. Overall proper care was not taken to make sure I felt safe and I felt like an inconvenience for not being able to immediately do everything. I was very scared and panicked and felt like I was drowning for the first 30 minutes.
I also felt the tension with the owner?, Kate with the divemasters and staff. Her responses felt snappy, even towards me, when I could not keep up with the group. I felt like i was the problem for not being able to use the equipment within such a short space of time even though this is totally normal. I would’ve liked to keep trying with the dive but I know how important it is to feel safe when diving and I felt extremely panicked.
The only positive was that I got to do my shallow snorkel diving and see some marine life as I’d hoped, but overall this was not the experience I had hoped for. The dive masters were lovely though! Teaching was just not what...
Read moreMy husband and I had the absolute pleasure of completing our Advanced Open Water Diver course and Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox) certification with Blue Water Diving last week, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience! From start to finish, everything went perfectly smoothly. Our instructor, Matilde, was truly outstanding – professional, deeply knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly kind. She guided us with confidence and care through every step of the course, making each dive both fun and educational. She took the time to walk us through every detail with clarity and patience, which made a big impact on our understanding and confidence as divers. We also had the pleasure of meeting Eileen, the senior instructor, who was equally professional, warm, and thorough in her explanations. The entire team at Blue Water Diving was fantastic – including the friendly and enthusiastic PADI Divemasters in training, who were always there to help and encourage us (and take the best underwater pictures!). A special thank you to the owner, Kate, who was kind, polite, and highly professional throughout – a true testament to the spirit of the center. The diving itself was spectacular – we explored stunning dive sites and encountered angel sharks, eels, stingrays, barracudas, trumpetfishes, and enjoyed an absolutely breathtaking wreck dive, which was definitely one of the best dives we have ever done! We were especially grateful for the team’s patience and support, whether it was helping with the equipment, giving tips, or getting in and out of the boat with ease. Their attention to detail and genuine care made all the difference. Of course, diving requires a fair amount of emotional resilience, especially when it’s been a while since your last dive or you’re learning and still getting used to the gear and underwater environment. For example, on our very first dive, my husband lost one of his fins at sea – but one of the Divemasters in training quickly and calmly dove down to retrieve it. Throughout every moment like this, the team remained endlessly patient, supportive, and kind, constantly giving us helpful tips on how to improve our diving technique and feel more comfortable underwater. Their approach turned potential stress into reassurance and growth, and we’re incredibly grateful for that. Finally, our certifications were issued very quickly, which was a great added bonus and spoke to the team’s efficiency and professionalism. This was truly an incredible experience from beginning to end. If you’re thinking about diving in the area, whether you’re just starting out or building on your skills, we wholeheartedly recommend Blue Water Diving. You’ll be in the best hands with a team that is both highly skilled and genuinely passionate about...
Read moreWe went as a group of 3. 2 had no problem, I struggled on breathing, and as everybody was waiting on me already on the boat (I've had 5 minutes to learn how to breath) I felt really rushed and called off the day, just couldn't make it on time it was expected. The first part of training took place in the room not with qualified diver but on your phone! Then straight to awful dirty water in the bit where all boats clean their toilets(it looked like that) and like I said I felt rushed as I was last in to the water and whole group was waiting on me on the boat, fair enough everyone before me took 5 minutes to do it but u wouldn't expect that from beginner class that the most important part would take 5 minutes. 2 out of our group went down and again we were miss sold as the guy told us it will be one qualified diver per one beginner(when we were booking I specifically asked for that twice), it's not the game unfortunately. We had 2 fully qualified drivers for whole group rest was still on training, they even talked to each other that they failed on something and have to re take the test... whole overall from 2 who dived from my group the experience was awesome but tbh it would be much better if this was what the company advertised for as they whole group was kept together and justdid whole diving as group not one by one diver. For me as I needed more time than 5 minutes in the water before the dive, anyone who is expecting pure beginner experience-avoide, I've seen classes in Tourito and Amadores where the trainer take u on the shore of the beach and actually spend time with you and only you, until you are ready to do the dive. If you are not sure if you can do it avoid as its only for ppl who can do it after 5 minutes training in the water and be comfortable with 2 qualified ppl for the whole group. They also train newbies in the team while they take u for the dive...very unprofessional experience, not what u would expect from such a serious activity, also I did not dive, I still had to pay for it. The last thing I've had a wee feeling there is some bulling going on in the team, especially from I think the owner- the guy who operates the boat towards...
