Night 1: (Saturday) Please find Vivaldi on the top floor of the last building at the end of the marina for fantastic, home made, delicious food and a host (samy) that makes you feel welcome like home, with a wonderful personality to ensure you have a fantastic evening meal in Puerto Rico! Service is quite slow as it's a one-woman show but if you're on holiday time then so what eh!
Our first night here and we will be back for more, with a lovely view of the harbour too, highly recommended that you come along and enjoy the delicious food and the lovely company. Thank you Vivaldi!
Night 2: (Wednesday) We went back and found the experience more exaggerated this evening to say the least. The food is lovely but can take ages to arrive as the kitchen is a one woman show of passion and performance (think Gordon Ramsay and a broken oven 😱!!! ). Just be aware of the drinks that can turn up unexpected towards the end of the night when your back is turned, perhaps when popping to the loo and also extra food such as garlic bread (which wasn't wanted) as they will be charged for... what may have been a sensible bill will increase to quite pricey without any real sense of value in the end. We met a lovely young couple who, along with ourselves, became part of the entertainment, dancing and singing with the owner/chef and her lovely cuban waiter, as she'd suddenly brought in a violinist at the eleventh hour, and, although this was fun, the final bill paid seemed too high to justify and I think the younger couple paid the price too which isn't really very fair (they seemed happy enough though all in all and we did all have a blast so all's good 😁!).
Unfortunately, when trying to leave the owner kept pushing for us all to come back the next night and made it embarrassing and awkward to say no, so we said we would, just to finally get away, but we won't be back so soon as this was afterall our second visit this week and we feel for the other couple in case they did go back as we'd have let them down (sorry if you read this guys and good luck!😉). It would have been nice to see them again but we'd rather have a more relaxed evening without all the drama next time.
I'd still suggest go along with an open mind and plenty of time to wait for the food to arrive but be aware of the pitfalls along the way.
Have fun and enjoy the experience should you give...
Read moreBoy oh boy!! I feel the duty to leave a review for this restaurant as I feel these good reviews on here are either paid for, or drunk people that had no clue what was happening. First the waitress missed one of the starters we asked for then we told her no to worry about it anymore as we had finished and the main was on the way, to, all of a sudden, the third starter arrived with the mains. Second all we could hear was the chef arguing in the kitchen and complaining about our orders when we were literally the only table there. Everything we asked the chef would say they didn’t have and we had to pick something else. We could hear her from our table and they didn’t realise I could understand. Third When the main came, neither my husband or I liked our mains so we left most of it. The chef came to our table and was extremely rude and aggressive asking why didn’t we eat? We just said we were full. Fourth when we asked for the bill the waitress lied saying the card machine wasn’t working and my husband had to walk out and run after a cash machine while the chef stood watching him where he went even tho I was still sitting at the table waiting. There was no sign advising that they didn’t accept cards, they waited for us to eat to tell us so we had no choice but the run after a machine to pay. Fifth the food was average, nothing special like most of these reviews in our opinion. The bruschetta came on this hard pizza like bread base and my pizza came with raw mushrooms. My husband’s main was just average nothing special. The only thing we liked was the panacota and the croquettes. And last we were very angry already at the whole experience and how the chef was being so arrogant to us we just wanted to pay and leave. They took our cash which had a lot of change and didn’t want to give us the change and when I said we were waiting for our change (no tip due to the experience) the chef was calling us all sort of names in Spanish and complaining about us not leaving tips and how we were this and that when I could understand everything. I wish I had listen to the bad reviews. We gave the benefit of doubt as this place has so many good reviews. I don’t feel these good reviews are genuine. Not only it was wasted money but the whole...
Read moreI've got to agree totally with all the positive comments written about Vivaldi....
She so well deserves her 4.8 review and i was amazed when i fitst saw her score and had to go try her out even though the restaurantis hidden away on the far top corner of the marina. . We visited work our9 month old baby James and Sammy is so welcoming and funny, she's the owner and chef and interacts with you all the time.
She freshly cooked all of the food and her freshly made pasta is amazing as was the pizza as we tried both on the 1st visit, she even makes her bread fresh which my partner loved. On the 2nd visit a few days later we requested food not on the menu, Sammy was happy to oblige and make us anything as long as she had to ingredients, so I asked her for prawns with mushrooms cooked in chilli and garlic and they were superb, for the main she made me a salmon tagliatelle and that was amazing as well. She even gave me a pot of her home made chilli sauce to spice it up as i like really hot food but she had made the dish for both me and my partner. I recommended this restaurant to a couple of other parties at our hotel we stayed at, the Marina Suites which I also highly recommend to stay at as a great location and they're really nice large rooms especially the deluxe suite we stayed in with the most amazing views and infinity pool.... anyhow back to the matter at hand, both parties visited and agreed with how good the food and service was and they both tried the fresh lobster which she had in the tank and said it was amazing plus the pizza and pasta which they also had, she even gave me a bottle of wine on the house after the 2nd visit.
It's such a shame this place is upstairs and in the far corner of this Marina as otherwise it would be so busy and you'd have to book in weeks in advance as everybody would go there,,, but there again its a hidden gem and probably best keeping hush to make sure we can always get a table when we go.
Can't recommend this restaurant and the owner high enough and can't wait to go back as this was the best food we had on the island and the price is so reasonable, especially for the quality of the food and the attentive service given.
Well done Sammy, 5* from...
