So unfortunate! After seeing great reviews on trip advisor, I decided to check this place out with my family. The day we went it was closed for the day, no problems - we went to a near by restaurant. We can back the next day and both ordered the fillet stick (stick not steak) it's a bit smaller but a heck of alot cheaper. One with mushroom sauce and the other with peppercorn sauce. Both came with a decent amount of chips. Both steaks were beautiful, freshly cooked and exactly as ordered. Both sauces were perfect. We also ordered a Ceaser salad to share as a starter. Again absolutely beautiful. The couple that run the restaurant were so lovely and accommodating. As expected of all the restaurants in the area, the drinks were a lot more expensive. But other than the drinks the bill was such good value for what we got!
A few days later we came back after reviewing a few more restaurants, as we enjoyed our first visit so much. It must have been a bad day.
I believe the chef was the only person on shift at the time. We were waiting an awfully long time between everything! There were only two table including us. We ordered the same as last time, and unfortunately it was a disaster. The salad was covered in cracked black pepper (which I can't eat) There was one small piece of chicken only, about the size of a 10 cent , and three pieces of bacon that were even smaller. The croutons were black.
The steak was re-heated, it was well over done, we asked for rare and it came out unfortunately as dry as anything and more like a brisket that a steak. Half of mine was burnt. The chips were dry on the inside and also tasted as if they had been reheated a few times. My partner remarked that is tasted like we were given another persons leftovers that were re heated! :( We didn't finish our meals, but tried to eat as much as possible. Genuinely gutted because we thought we had found a real treasure...
Read moreOur focaccia starter was not focaccia at all. It was more like supermarket frozen garlic bread with some tomatoes and mozzarella on top. The meat ravioli was flavourless and disappointing- no seasoning mixed in with the meat and the pasta itself seemed store bought just like the “focaccia” starter. The tagliatelle was average. Overpriced and not homemade. We saw the chef kneading dough in the kitchen, maybe it was play-dough for added effect. If it was the actual dough used in the pizza, then their homemade pizzas do have the supermarket (Iceland) texture and taste. If you are looking for Italian cuisine this is not the place. We read the reviews prior and have noticed others commenting similar views. The restaurant has responded to one prior review stating ‘their product comes from Italian sources’, perhaps Iceland & Aldi get their stuff from that same Italian source as well? I would like to mention the waiter was nice and served us well, the view of the harbour was lovely too, but if you visit this place please bear in mind this what you will be paying for I cannot be more...
Read moreBetween my wife and I we had two different pizzas and two different desserts.
My pizza (cello) was parma ham and ruccola salad. My wife had white pizza with ham and onion (fugazza).
While the topping was ok, the crust was like a prefabricated slab of doe, unevenly varying between rock hard and tough like leather. Both pizzas end up on the low end of the scale.
The desserts were tiramisu, that was soggy and rather tasteless, and cannoli that was also soggy. Both desserts were disappointing at best.
The thing that made this place avoid one star was the "on the house"-limoncello served after the bill was asked for. That was really...
