American Club Taipei — Local services in Taipei

Members only kind of place. If you are visiting, you won’t be able to park in their parking lot. So many rules here. You can’t speak on the phone in the club, you have to take your calls outside. Apparently too many inconsiderate people spoke too loudly on their phones so they have enforced a rule.

No eating or drinking allowed in the lobby of the American Club. I tried to take a photo and they got mad at me, saying I can take photos, but ensure that no one is in my picture. They are worried about privacy, makes sense. I literally took a photo of the front desk and I think the employees got mad.

Almost impossible to have guests come by and use their swimming pool.

I was shocked to see the train-like barriers that separate the lobby from the club house. Makes the whole place feel unwelcoming.

They have a library, but if you are visiting you can’t go inside.

Their restaurant recently went through a menu makeover. It was decent. We sat inside and enjoyed a hearty meal that included Mushroom Risotto, Seafood Angel Hair Pasta, Prime Rib Steak and Salmon Bruschetta. I ordered the chicken salad and they brought it out to share with everyone. I don’t mind sharing, but the waiter should have known that was what I ordered as my meal. They brought out plates for everyone with my salad, and then I was left having to order a second item because I didn’t have a plate when the rest came out.

For an American Club, there were more Chinese members present. Nothing wrong with that, it is obvious this place is not what it used to be. More of a pretentious club for people to join to say they belong to this place. I am not interested in...

The American Chinese Club is an excellent place in Taipei. If you ever need a peaceful place to do homework or just to hang out there, Acc would be with you for a while. It is a place you must visit at least once. There are amazing varied activities which my favorite is the Basketball court and mini games. Acc is clean and unique everywhere you go. There are 3 mouth watering restaurants, including a Japanese restaurant, Western restaurant and a Terrace, all restaurants with excellent service and people.
