The minute I stepped out of the Ximen MRT station, the energy hit me. Ximending is like a whole different world, especially at night. The streets are packed with people, music spills out of shops, and neon signs cast a glow over everything. It's a sensory overload in the best way possible.
The night market itself is a labyrinth of stalls, each one vying for your attention with colorful displays and mouthwatering smells. I spent ages just browsing, taking in the crazy fashion accessories, the rows upon rows of cutesy toys, and the stalls piled high with exotic fruits I'd never seen before.
Of course, the highlight is definitely the food. I had a skewer of perfectly grilled Taiwanese sausage, a fluffy scallion pancake bursting with flavor, and finished it all off with a cup of the best bubble tea I've ever tasted. It's all so affordable, so I kept going back for more, trying new things with every loop around the market.
Now, it can get a little overwhelming at times. There are just so many people, and it can be hard to navigate the narrow streets. But that's all part of the experience, the sense of joyful chaos.
