Futai Street Mansion — Attraction in Zhongzheng District

「撫臺街洋樓」是一間目前台北城中最古老的建築，建於日據時期西元一九一〇年，而「撫台街」是延平南路的舊稱。建築外觀造型優雅，深受歐陸古典建築風格影響，最大特色為立面有陡斜屋頂、斜屋頂上的老虎窗、石造拱廊柱等，典雅地模樣，相當耐看。 撫臺街洋樓雖然因為是當時城內罕見的獨棟式店鋪，而在日據時代逃過拆除的命運，後經國防部宿舍、中醫診所、廢墟、面臨拍賣到二〇〇二年二月二十六日慘遭祝融之災，一路坎坷。 直至二〇〇六年八月由臺北市政府文化局修建，二〇〇七年十二月修建完成，才重新以「認識台北舊城歷史」的迷你型博物館，再顯於眾人眼前。 "Futai Street Foreign House" is currently the oldest building in Taipei City. Although the Futai Street Foreign House was a rare single-family shop in the city at that time, it escaped the fate of demolition during the Japanese occupation, and then passed the dormitory of the Ministry of National Defense, the Chinese medicine clinic, the ruins, and was auctioned until February 2002. It was not until August 2006 that it was built by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taipei City Government and completed in December 2007. Nice place to learn a bit about history of Taiwan during Japanese rule times. Japanese not only occupied but also developed Taiwan. This place is small but worth a visit even if you have just a few minutes of time. Entrance is free of charge. The writings are only in Chinese, but you can use smartphone translator. And the lady working here is also very kind and good guide with excellent English...

Most historical sites only have plaques describing their historical significance, this one has everything, from exhibit to tour guide! Also has a room in the back that rotates its exhibit content. It serves as a distribution point for certain community event brochures. All of these come with a grand admission price of "free"!
