OK first of all I'm kind of biased as I used to work in the place when it was Odyssey Cinemas.
The new look of the place is great. Sleek and stylish. The foyer is nowhere near as freezing as it used to be.
Having two sets of ticket takers is such a good idea.
Went to see two films: Belfast (meh) and Dune (it was great because I FREAKING LOVE SAND). The ads are a bit on the long side but I guess that's just part of the experience.
I only bought a large cappuccino (cheeky £1 pack of tropical skittles smuggled infrom the Spar out the back for the lads (I went on my own)). £2.90 for the coffee which is reasonable for a cinema...I think... I don't get much (even before Covid).
The seats are numbered and they're comfy, kind of miss the old seats but these ones look easier to clean. Also good leg room so you don't have to worry about people stepping on your toes when walking past.
Dune was on in the IMAX, the heating seemed to conk out halfway through, but probably just a teething problem.
Staff are friendly and helpful. It feels like it could do with an information kiosk or a greeter as you come in because while as someone who worked there it was obvious where to go but if you're going there for the first time it could be a bit daunting and if you were someone less super sound and chill as me that could lead to upset. For some reason I thought the cafe part was only for certain ticket holders, its not.
Overall the place is in a much better place from where it was. Was that because I was a manager who's to say... but yes.
Best of luck to all the new staff (and old... very old 😉) and hope it goes from strength...
Read moreHad the VIP experience this time round, when booking online for the VIP you get two options £15 for VIP experience or £17 for Xtra VIP experience both with the same out come small popcorn, small drink and free car parking if parked in the odyssey carpark doesn't say what the other two quid is for. When booking online you get the option to print of your ticket/s to save you time from standing in the queue but you still have to wait for your popcorn and drink at the same place. Watching the movie the fire exit area is lite up by a corridor with all its lights on as well as the exit sign within the VIP seating area, the sign is more than enough to lead the way out, need a door or curtains across the gap for a more cinema experience I had to seat with my leg up just blank out the light. The chairs are a pull cord recliner I believe are abit out dated for VIP area there's cinemas here in Belfast with electric recliners and alot more comfortable on the back, however there was loads of room and a storage area within the armrest for any valuables that may fall out of your pockets when seating down thought the volume was a tad too high yes I'm there for the picture and sound but at a couple of points in the movie I had to hold my ears closed it was one of the moments where your right into the movie almost sitting at the end of my seat and then the volume kills the moment. The place was clean and the staff...
Read moreOur trip to see Spiderman in 4DX was such a disappointment compared to the cinema experience we were looking forward to.
Where do I even begin? We were told the 3D element of the 4DX wasn't working that day, which taking a 3 hour round trip from Derry solely for the 4DX experience, and the cost of £18.19 per ticket was a massive blow. We were ensured by staff however that the other effects were fully functioning and that customer service would be in contact and a full refund would be issued.
We sat for 30 minutes in a completely normal cinema screen, I got up and notified a member of staff that the other effects weren't working and 10minutes later the rest of the 4DX effects came into action.
I notified the manager that the gents toilets was out of handsoap before the film began. Almost 3 hours later, the soap still hadn't been refilled, which just is not acceptable during a pandemic.
Customer service never contacted us, as the staff had said, and I didn't receive my refund until I hounded them for it.
