I cannot state enough how amazing the service at Compuwave is. My housemate had their computer repaired late last year after it suddenly shut off and wouldn't come back. It was fixed within the week and no further issues, we were given a really great breakdown of the issue and advice for future care. My partner decided to have both of his laptops looked at recently, one for a battery fault which was fixed to a state we're happy with and both laptops had a good clean and diagnostics done. Both run really well now. Finally, I'm very nervous about having my tech seen to as most of my work is on my laptop I was reluctant to get the broken hinge on my laptop sorted for so long. I had taken it to other places which outright refused to fix a case issue or would have to mail my laptop away for repairs, which because of the state of the hinge, would have caused a lot more damage. I took my laptop in to Compuwave this week and the treatment was fantastic. I felt completely comfortable and confident having my laptop in Compuwave's care. It was repaired in 2 days(!) despite it being a busy week for the business and my laptop finally opens and closes as normal. Whilst I was there I had my laptop cleaned and they ran a diagnostics, fixing a minor issue that was spotted at the same time. I could not be happier with the level of care and quality that Compuwave has, they clearly love what they do and love to...
Read moreI am afraid I can’t recommend Compuwave to anyone who wants their MacBook’s screen replaced. I was quoted £300-£350, it was £360. As soon as I arrived home I noticed the screens build quality was not as expected. The metal back felt rough and cheap and the hinges were stiff. Usually you can open every MacBook with one finger without lifting it off the table. This wasn’t the case any longer.
I inquired if this was a genuine screen. I was assured it was. I still had my doubts but ignored this since the picture quality was fine.
After just over 3 months the webcam stopped working. I contacted Darren who said that this was a software bug. I did some googling and indeed it can be software related.
A couple weeks later the so called “stage light effect” appeared. The cause for this is a damaged ribbon cable, the one that connects the screen to the laptop base. I contacted Darren but was told Apple’s warranty fro replacing parts is only 3 months and wasn’t offered any assistance.
I contacted Apple and since Compuwave isn’t an authorised Apple repair centre the gentleman I had on the phone strongly suggested this was a counterfeit screen.
Sadly a member of my close family passed away and I don’t have the nerves to follow this up any further.
Best is to find another shop if you ever have MacBook...
Read moreAfter my laptop stopped working I took it to a different computer shop first and they charged £15 just to look at it, had it for two weeks and then told me it would be so expensive to repair that it wouldn't be worth it. I took it to Compuwave for a second opinion and they had it up and running in a couple of days and it only cost me £36. They also told me if they hadn't been able to fix it they wouldn't have charged me anything. They two guys I dealt with were both really polite, friendly and helpful and were really quick to get in touch once my laptop was fixed, so I didn't have to waste time chasing them as I had with the other shop.
Overall, I can't fault these guys on anything. If you have a computer problem and want a honest, trustworthy computer repair shop who won't mess you around, I strongly recommend using Compuwave and not a certain other computer shop on North Street who I...
