A month ago today I had the pleasure of spending the day at the Silver & Steel Studio with my two Best Ladies on my Hen do! Beth welcomed us with cups of coffee and croissants which set us up well for our day of silversmithing. Everything was explained very clearly from the beginning of the session. None of us had done anything like this before and Beth didn't rush us through anything and kept checking in with all 3 of us to make sure that we were getting along ok. We got to pick our own silver, learnt about annealing and did some, had a go at rolling and pressing the silver out, bashed our rings into shape with a hammer (wonderful rage therapy haha!), soldered the join with silver, made bezel settings, cut them out with a saw, filed, pickled our rings in a chemical solution, set our stones, polished everything with a polishing machine, and voila! The 3 finished rings can be seen in the photo :) We even ran over our allocated time by an hour due to me making not one, but 3 bezels, and at no point did we feel that Beth rushed us in the slightest! I learnt so much, got to spend a wonderfully memorable day with my favourite ladies, and left with a ring that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I can't recommend this studio enough if you're looking for a Hen do activity that is a bit more chilled and teaches you a new skill, and leaves you with a handmade piece of jewellery. All of the materials and tools were included in the cost of the booking and for what we left with, I think it was an incredibly reasonably priced activity. Thank you so much Beth! Hope to be back at some point for one of your other courses soon :D

My friend and I attended a jewellery making workshop with Max on Friday where I made a ring. The whole experience was fabulous, I really enjoyed learning about the whole process of creating a ring from scratch. I have a new found appreciation of all my jewellery as it’s a complex process but Max really was a great instructor, very patient and helpful. I was able to set a peridot stone in a bezel set silver ring. The stone was half of a pair of earrings(one was lost) from a special holiday. I’m very pleased with my creation and hope to do more workshops in the future.

I had such a brilliant time at the wax carving workshop with Silver and Steel! Sam was an excellent teacher—so knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. The session had such a lovely, relaxed vibe, which made it easy to get stuck in and really enjoy the creative process. I learned so much more than I expected, from different carving techniques to tips I’ll definitely use in my own work. It was great value for money too—would 100% recommend to anyone curious about wax carving or looking to expand their jewellery-making skills. Can’t wait to do another!

What an incredible place to explore the world of jewellery making! Whether you're just starting your journey, looking to expand your skills, or eager to access a vast array of tools, this studio is perfect. I only wish Silver & Steel Studio was around when I first began making jewellery!

Recently, I attended one of the Thursday drop-in sessions since I couldn't fit a formal course into my schedule. I had an amazing experience focusing on flush settings. Bethany was so accommodating, offering a variety of options and suggestions. She had even prepared a specific tool for me to use during my visit!

The support I received throughout the session was fantastic while still having indepent time to practice.

The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, with other people dropping in to use the studio and the talented resident jewellers. It really was a great place to learn amongst other creatives. The time truly flew by!

I’m already planning my next visit and have been in touch about what I want to learn next. I can’t...

Silver and Steel is an absolute gem of a place! Beth, the amazing owner, is incredibly supportive of the creative community, always promoting an environment of inspiration and collaboration. The gallery showcases a diverse range of talented jewellery artists and their stunning pieces, each more unique than the last, and all priced fairly, ensuring great value for the quality and craftsmanship.

I also recently attended a workshop with Steve (Captain Grimace) on the art of wax carving, and it was truly inspiring. His expertise and engaging teaching style made the experience truly unforgettable. I highly recommend Silver and Steel to anyone living in or visiting Bristol—whether you’re looking to buy beautiful jewellery or learn something new, this is the...
