Please be aware that there is a spiral staircase to get up to the apartments and you will have to carry your bags. The number one through three apartments are on the first landing and the others are on the next two landings. The higher the number of the apartment, the higher you're going to have to climb. The apartments are very nice. There's was a full bath, a washing/ dryer and dishwasher in the kitchen and an appropriate number of cups and cutlery. Be able to enjoy the experience as well as a fridge with a couple of bottles of water - preloaded. The welcome basket of biscuits/ cookies and pods of coffee and sugar were welcome. There's a discount card for other businesses in the local area also owned by the same people. What I was less excited about was having to send a picture of my passport And a copy of the receipt via email to get my room code. There was a little instructional guidebook the living room which was helpful but could have been more detailed about the operation of the shower/bath facilities and the dryer. The windows are permanently fixed open by about an inch. This is a little difficult because at least under the number one apartment there is a bar that gets a little loud in the evening. I really really recommend ear plugs. Bring your ear plugs. The local boots didn't seem to have any. The view of the castle was as promised and was actually very nice. I enjoyed watching it every morning. The washer did an excellent job of getting my clothes clean, although I never could get it to completely get them dry. There is a drying rack in the closet and 2 days with me doing a little bit of moving around to get things into the sunshine eventually resulted in dryish clothes. It really does feel like staying in an apartment rather than a hotel room, but has the downside of you really are at a location without any staff. It is truly steps away from the Royal mile and very convenient for the castle and St. Giles or doing one of the islander experiences. Great location but you will want to have packed light.

We started our Trip in this apartment, apartment one. I wanted to start in scotland in old town. And on returning stay in city center. Experience both sides. But I wish I would have just stayed here both times. Very cute, little apartment. Icebox and washer in dryer combo. In the front of the apartment, you have a church to the side of you.You have a frankenstein restaurant. Behind you, you have shops like the islander. Islander is where you can build purses. From our windows, we could see the graveyard and the castle. When you walk out to your right, you have the scotland museum. There are many restaurants across the street and down the road. The little scotland small store across the street to the left has cheaper monsters than they do in america. If you keep going down after that, you will see that colorful street. Everyone takes pictures of, to the left. Maybe two blocks down. Also, it is really not far from the 1mile and the castle. Be smart and layer up under your jacket. We went and November.I did not think it was as bad as most people say it was gonna be. Until the day. It's snowed. I think layering up his key in case ur not as cold and can take your bigger jacket off.

I’m awarding this two stars because the location is excellent. The accommodations and customer service are not. A property without a front desk needs to be responsive to customer questions, and that was not the case here. Emails, Expedia messages, and texts directly to the property manager all went unanswered. Additionally, the flat wasn’t properly cleaned (found what appeared to be a toenail by the couch- come on guys!!) and it had a shabby appearance all in all. My partner hated the bed, saying it was far too firm, but I didn’t mind it as much so take that as you will.

A room with a view and more! We recently vacationed in the UK with three days in Edinburgh Scotland stating at the George IV flat on the top floor. We arrived at sunset to the beautiful view pictured. The flat was two bedrooms with a bathroom, living room, kitchen and dining area. The living, kitchen and dining are all open floor plan with the kitchen along one wall.

Pros: Excellent location! It is just steps away from Victoria St., which is J.K. Rowling inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter novels. Wonderful shops and restaurants nearby and around the corner. (see my other reviews)

Spacious, well appointed flat. After a few days on the road we were in need of washing our clothes. This flat comes with a combo washer/dryer, refrigerator, stove, tea kettle, nespresso (yay!), microwave and all dishes, pans and utensils to cook or heat up leftovers. Rooms are a nice size despite the slanting roof with nice closets.

The View! - See for yourself. We could see the people lining up to get into the castle in the morning. The bedrooms also had skylights with views.

I would give this place a 5 except for a few, small items, which may not matter to others.

Cons: Bad knees? Arthritis? There is no elevator to the top floor, so if you have someone who is not used to walking four flights up, with luggage, it may be difficult for them.

Light sleeper? Noise did travel to the top from the street. Take some well positioning ear plugs or sleep with some music like we did.

Showing some slight wear & tear. The bathroom shower over sprays as there is only partial glass, so the tub area is showing water damage. The walls need a fresh coat of paint in the bathroom and throughout. The living room windows are also a bit drafty and whistle. We drew the roman blinds and put the pillows from the sofa along the edge of the windows to keep out the draft.

A word on the elephant house coffee shop below the apartments. It is very touristy with teens with their wands getting photos. We never entered as there were less crowded coffee places around the city without the prices, or wait. Supposedly JK Rowling went there, although it is disputed how much time she actually spent there. It has a "George Washington slept here" quality to it.

Overall our family had a lovely vacation. The location of the Georg IV apartments is terrific! Edinburgh is a very walkable city and at this flat you are in the heart of everything. A wonderful place to stay for the urban adventurer who likes...

My husband and I stayed at No. 1 Apartments George IV Bridge in Edinburgh for just under one week (on vacation from Canada). We can't say enough good things!! (And I'm VERY particular!!) We initially stayed in a one-bedroom suite (no. 4) and then upgraded to a two bedroom suite (no. 8). Both had views of the castle. Although situated in an older, heritage building, the apartments have a modern aesthetic. This is a walk-up without an elevator or a/c, so that may be an issue for some. We stayed on the very top floor and didn't find the stairs to be an issue. The location is absolutely perfect. It's only a 3 minute walk to the Royal Mile, and maybe 5 more mins to Edinburgh Castle. Holyrood Castle is at the opposite end of the Royal Mile, about a 20 minute walk, at most. Victoria Street (aka Diagon Alley) is literally around the corner, just 2 mins away. Grassmarket is at the end of that short street, about a 4 min walk. Greyfriars Bobby is at the end of the block, so less than a minute's walk away. All to say, it's a great location. While there are no hotel staff members onsite, they're extremely responsive and will come to your suite within minutes, if there's an issue. Peter and Jan (the contacts for our suites) were extremely helpful and always available by phone or in-person. The suites are clean and well-designed. Both the one- and two-bedroom suites have a combined washer/dryer, and a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. The two-bedroom is very large and spacious, but only has one bathroom. We loved it. We would return to No. 1 Apartments in a heartbeat. Thanks for an awesome stay!! We hope to...
