Typical touristy Scottish pub with a hearty whiskey and beer list and a traditional Scottish pub fare menu.

The pork scotch egg was decent. It was flavoured nicely although the egg was slightly overcooked for my tastes (practically hard-boiled). The Cullen skink was quite tasty, but as it was my first time trying it, I have no point of comparison about how authentic it is.

My friends got the chicken sandwich and the fish and chips. Both enjoyed their meals, although neither considered them outstanding. The fish n chips seemed to be a rather small portion size, with only a handful of chips.

I went all in with the neeps & tatties with haggis. I had no clue what that meant, and I had never tried haggis before. (It always seemed off-putting to me.) However, I'm glad I did. It was a very tasty dish and haggis is not nearly as gross as people had made it sound. It's a luscious sort of ground beef type meat. The sauce was great too. I very enjoyable dish. Again, I have no idea how legit this version is to traditional neeps & tatties, but nevertheless, it was good enough for me.

The letdown was the so-called Pimm's Spritz that was advertised on the bar. It was an incredibly over-priced regular spritz. No Pimms should cost £12 ever. Allegedly, it had prosecco, but it honestly just tasted like a Pimms and soda. It had like a slice of lemon and a piece of apple in it that did nothing. It did not contain any of the fruits promised on the sign. That was pretty annoying and misleading. Pimm's is an incredibly cheap liquor so to charge so much for this drink and then skimp on all the fruits was a rip-off.

So, all in all, if you're a tourist and you're looking for a decent pub lunch, this will hit the spot. I don't think it's going to rewrite any culinary history books, but it's a solid amount of food for a fairly reasonable price...

Went to George IV on Christmas Eve and had a fabulous lunch. The venue was stylish, atmospheric, and the food fantastic. Our family of four were all delighted with our food and drink choices, both in portion, taste and selection!

There was a small issue which was made bigger by a very defensive waitress who wanted to talk more than listen. After paying the bill and thinking it seemed a bit high for what we ordered, I then notice on the receipt a 10% service charge. When questioned, our waitress got very defensive citing a small sign by the door when you walk in that states that all bills will include an optional 10% service charge. On a cold rainy day when you hurry to get in and to find a seat, this sign is easily missed. I explained that I think this is sneaky tactic to increase profits and that they should point this out when paying and make clear that it is optional to guests before paying the tab. The bill doesn’t say it is optional and no one drew attention to it. She offered to refund it but that wasn’t the point, I was happy to pay it, my issue stood with the principal of the matter, which was the discreet nature of adding it to the bill and making no mention of it.

That being said, I’d happily return but would prefer a conversation remain friendly and cordial, without the...

We popped in here last night after dinner a group of 8 .A lovely pub who had a great musician playing.About an hour and half in to our night which we were thoroughly enjoying a member of our party ordered a round of drinks noticing a few mins later that we were short a drink we went to order the drink that was missing to be told by staff we couldn't be serve anymore alcohol only water. When asked was the bar closed she said no she wouldn't serve us as a member of our party looked tired. No bar staff or management had approached us prior to ordering drinks to Inform us that member of our party looked tired or wouldn't be served more alcohol. So because one looked tired the remainding 7 of us could not be served.I personally have never encountered a situation like this. Appalled that the bar was well able to take a lot of money of us for the time we spent there and treat us that way.As i said earlier a lovely bar but very disappointed by the way we...

Stumbled upon this lovely place on our way to the castle - it was quite busy but we found a space quickly near the entrance at the high tables and the service was really quick and attentive (table service in place) We had leek&potato soup for starters (YUMM) and fish&chips and chicken pie for mains. Really nice and massive portions. We ordered an extra portion of chips thinking it won't be enough and here comes a MASSIVE bowl of chips. They were very nice though so we held on to them as a snack with the cocktails that we ordered instead of desserts - bailey's banana colada (delicious) and a whiskey sourz. Not the cheapest of places but reasonably priced as the food, drinks and service was really good.
