Parked at Bakewell Bridge Car Park on 11th October 2025, and what a headache! You pay on exit here, so I did exactly that. I paid via contactless on my phone on the left-hand machine, there were no messages that the payment was declined. My smartwatch even pinged to confirm the £5 payment. No receipt, but I thought, “okay, fine, it’s 2025 we’re paperless now.”
Fast-forward a week and I get a Parking Charge Notice from Parkit Management, saying I didn’t pay! Checked my banking apps, nothing there, but my Samsung Pay history clearly shows the payment was approved. Turns out, after a bit of digging, this seems to be a regular issue at this car park, loads of people have had the same problem.
It’s so frustrating you do everything right, the machine approves the payment, and then you still get fined. Definitely keep screenshots or proof of payment if you park here, because the system clearly isn’t reliable. Check your wallet because it keeps a log of all contactless transactions. Contact your bank and query the missing payment, because chances are the payment is being held in order to facilitate the no payment ruse to obtain money by deception!!
Just incase you try to justify one machine giving receipts, while the other doesn't (person using the machine on the right received a receipt), here are some legislation that you should familiarise yourself with:
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, car park operators are required to ensure their payment systems operate with reasonable care and skill. Furthermore, the Payment Services Regulations 2017 establish that once a payment is authorised by the customer and approved by the payment provider, responsibility for processing lies with the merchant’s system.
Additionally, the British Parking Association Code of Practice requires operators to act fairly and to consider evidence of genuine attempts to pay, especially in cases where technology may have failed.
Stating that there is a 'sign' with regards to missing payment receipt, means you are aware of the fault but refuse to fix it because it benefits you financially!
Bakewell is lovely, but this car park, though convenient in location… not so much. Sort it...
Read moreThe car park spaces here are small. Majority (and I mean the majority!) of cars are not parked legally and therefore it's even harder to squeeze my family car in. Better suited carpark for small cars. The chap working on the carpark is certainly a character, as preview reviews suggest, but he wasn't rude to me. He invested time in helping everybody with the carparking machines, although they're incredibly simple so I didn't really need help and felt a wee awkward. Although I'm sure some appreciate it. I feel his time would be better utilised helping users park correctly because it's honestly ridiculous. Anyway! Park up and enjoy your day. Input your reg plate and pay with your card on exit. Done! Neither cheap nor expensive. 5 minute walk or less into centre...
