Staying in Bakewell for the weekend and experienced the most disappointing Indian meal in many years. Service was poor and included asking for salt for our popadoms which was brought during our main and my wife’s plate being taken before she had finished eating her main. My prawn puree was the strangest tasting one I’ve eaten in thirty plus years, looking more like baby food and tasting more like a child’s korma. My main was the chicken tikka Balti, which was tasteless and did not match the description on the menu. The only food highlight was the keema naan, which was nice. The leaflet states this is the “finest Indian in the Peaks” which I find hard to believe. I would not recommend and certainly wouldn’t eat at again.

Date of Visit: 23/04/2024 - The Chicken Madras (dish on the right) was ***VERY*** hot as expected, but also tasty and moreish all at the same time. My wife’s onion rice was delicious, and she enjoyed her main also (Vegetable Rogan Josh) The plain naan bread was lovely and sweet, as were the onion bhajis, however the chips were quite disappointing and tasted strange; so I must remember to definitely give them a miss when we return. The service was excellent from all the staff, especially the owner who clearly has a strong passion for his successful Bakewell business - Thank you to all the staff :)

A very nice restaurant with friendly staffs. The ambience of the restaurant was fantastic. However, most dishes were not spicy enough and some were too sweet for our taste. It didn’t taste like the Indian food we usually had. Perhaps the food is better suited for others who don’t necessarily fancy hot food. Therefore, the food tasted just okay for us. Personally, I wouldn’t fancy going back.

Unfortunately it seems many decent Bakewell based restaurants close after lunch and do not open until 6:30/7pm. My wife and I needed to be at a show for 7:30pm so we searched for somewhere that could do a 5pm sitting and we settled on here (booked well in advance) as us Brummies love a curry. Unfortunately, us Brummies also really know our curries and whereas this wasn't bad, it didn't quite hit the mark. The food was very much 'ok', the Garlic Chilli Chicken had no hit to it at all, yet my wife's vegetable Balti was unexpectedly spicy for her. When she requested some yoghurt she got a look like she had personally insulted the waiter. On that point the service was mixed. The gentleman who greeted us was most put out (as we entered the empty restaurant as it only opened 30 minutes prior) that our advance booking of 2 people had now changed to 'maybe 3', and that the third person would only be popping in for a quick drink with us as we ate our meals as he was performing at the Town Hall (the show we were were attending). As we ate several members of staff / owners looked on from an awkward distance, which wasn't great. We did not finish much of our food and whilst waiting for the bill, we continued to chat between us while we finished our drinks. A gentlemen (perhaps the owner) then came over and asked us to move off the table (before we had paid) as it was needed for others (the place was half empty at this point) and we were instructed to sit with those picking up takeaways. It was all just a bit insensitive and blunt and we shall not return. Not terrible, but...

Well after such a raving review inside the restaurant for our honeymoon,we returned in our caravan and decided to have a takeaway as we enjoyed it so much & couldn’t wait to return. had the exact same order as in the restaurant and stated that I DID NOT want any coriander in anything as I’m allergic… waited 40 mins for it to be delivered, was so excited only to open up every single container and coriander was in everything… not slightly either! completely over loaded! All I ate was the chips & the lamb tikka masala. such a shame as I literally recommend this place to anyone that would listen. also bhajis were very greasy, fish masala nothing like what we had in the restaurant. Naan bread dry, and not a lot of lamb in the tikka. embarrassed that Iv recommended to so many people. would I visit again in restaurant? no I wouldn’t. Can see why the other reviews say not to go. restaurant maybe… delivery no. 50/50 chance it or don’t but we...

I don't understand how this place has got such high reviews. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants and the food here has to be some of the worst I've ever had. The pickle tray was average at best- what the strange, brown offering is I do not know but it was vile!! I love a fish curry and choose the monk massala and was disappointed. It was served in a generic curry which was heavily oiled (could have been ghee) but I could not taste the fish at all and what few chunks I had were way over cooked. My wife had a chicken tikka balti and whilst edible was average at best.

I wouldn't normally write a poor review however this meal then caused me to be violently ill a few hours later and several times after. My wife, whilst not sick, did not feel well either

The staff were good and attentive but that cannot make up for the...
