would NOT recommend, the staff are unprepared and do not plan around deadlines. the treatment of students is also horrendous, I am appalled by the health and wellbeing staff at this college, they proceeded to lie to the police about a case of sexual assault on their campus, bare in mind this is not a first incident, and supported the assaulter, leaving the victim to suffer, even when multiple people stood up to speak about it and nothing was done in the entire 2 year long course. there is no support for anyone and the health and wellbeing team even have the audacity to laugh at a victim of sexual assault. This is by far the most disrespectful experience I have encounter here, not to mention that some of the staff are rude or ignorant to LGBTQ+ students, more specifically those under the trans umbrella as even when told the details, teachers have still deadnamed students in front of their whole class which is quite humiliating and very disrespectful. Having been at this college for 4 years I can say I have come back worse than when I went in, every course was a disappointment and the teachers couldn't careless about the mental health of students, also neglecting students and leaving them behind with no support in lessons. If your looking to go to this college I highly suggest looking else were, they are ill prepared and rude.
To add onto this, it is also known that some reviews have been taken down in a petty attempt to keep the college looking good and acting like they are trying to help when all they do is waste money that was given to them to support students. that money was spent on other...
Read moreI took geography, environmental science and criminology at a level at Alton college and I enjoyed my time there. The geography department was good despite there only being 1 teacher who was able to juggle both year 1 and year 2 classes as well as the multitude of day trips to London and the coast, Izzy wood (the teacher) also educated well on topics surrounding colonialism and did a good job at decolonising the curriculum both herself and using an array of guest speakers. The environmental science department was also great they had more teachers who were all very friendly and chatty and the course was laid out clearly working through packs , each pack with its own topic/theme. On top of this we also had a few day trips in which we were able to experience fieldwork conducting experiments outside of the classroom setting. Lesley newel and Neil furlonger were fantastic and were able to juggle other commitments they had outside of environmental science such as year 1 and 2 biology classes and lessons in the Havant branch. Criminology was a good course and furthered my understanding of the criminal system while also looking at real life case examples. Despite having to sit two 8 hour exams it was good and somewhat a more relaxed course than geography and environmental science so it was nice to have a break. Lucie jeanes was lovely also and was my personal tutor who helped with the writing of personal statements and applications to uni which is...
Read moreWouldn’t recommend. Teachers speak to you like vile, lie there way through things to make it look like you’ve done things wrong, they only care about going home at the end of the day when they should care about young adults and teenagers futures. Better off teaching yourself and all they do is sit there and show you a couple of slides off the internet. When you go and ask for help with your mental and physical health they turn you away and tell you “your fine” they don’t give you the help and support you need and then wonder why so many students drop out or don’t turn up. My tutor’s attitude towards me is vile for a starters as well as the health and well being team they don’t listen to you and only tell half the story to your parents and other members of staff. I was suggested to take a mental health day once every 2 weeks or a month and then was proceeded to be shouted at for taking a day to myself when I was told to have a day off by a health and well-being member of staff. Absolutely appalling DO NOT SEND...
