The Boathouse fisheries — Local services in Folkestone and Hythe District

I first experienced the Boathouse when I bought a bag of frozen prawns in the shells, which was lovely. Very excited then to learn that the restaurant was opening within days. So, next time I went into Hythe I popped in the restaurant and had soft shell crab. This was not to my expectations as it was far too crispy and all I could taste was batter. I then saw that they were advertising a mussel night so booked 2 seats. I wish i hadn't. Firstly, they offered us seats right outside the toilets, (i probably would not have noticed but the door was wide open) I asked to be sat elsewhere, as shop was quite empty we were given another table. The mussels was delivered with chips and bread. I ordered the mussels in white wine sauce, to say that this was in a sauce is exaggerating, it was like mussels in skimmed milk, not luscious and creamy, completely tasteless apart from garlic. My friends mussels were disappointing as 8 of them did not open. This was pointed out to staff, who were very polite but no manager came to apologise My friend ordered apple crumble with custard for dessert, when it was delivered it was the smallest jug of custard, not enough for the amount of crumble, it also looked uncooked. It was, she sent it back and manager came over to ask why, so she said it was not cooked, he said it was !!!! We'd had enough by that time and asked for bill. We did not get charged for the crumble I will not...

My first visit to the boathouse I ordered soft shell crab and was very disappointed with it but unfortunately I did give the boathouse another try this time I ordered the mussels in white wine and cream it was so tasteless it looked like the mussels we’re in a plate of milk very small mussels 8 of my mussels were not even opened I think they should check their recipes then I ordered apple crumble had to wait a long time for it when it did come up it was awful the crumble was white looked like it hadn’t even been cooked I took one bite of it and I pushed it aside I have noticed that some people have given it 5 stars I wish I could have but my experience at the boathouse was not the same as these other people I eat a lot of fresh fish so I know what is good the staff were very polite this review is nothing to do with them they did not charge me for the apple crumble on the bill but if they had have put it on I would have refused...

I was recommemded this by friends so took my mother and a friend for lunch .we were very disappointed with our meals nothing like the st marys bay standard .the skate was partially burnt on the batter the huss didnt smell fresh the chips were thin and mushy peas were warm not hot . The coffee was not of good taste either . The staff were very polite and helpful but i did notice a staff member was vaping behind the fresh counter as she walked out to the side to talk to a gentleman she had it kind of hidden in her hand but took it away from her mouth quickly .
