Unfortunately we had a really disappointing experience here yesterday. We had seen the positive reviews and good photos, so thought it would be a nice place to have our first lunch in the Lake District. Even though the menu advertises meat, fish and vegan sandwiches, the fillings we were offered were ham, cheese & onion, or chicken. When we asked if we could have ham, cheese and onion, we were told no as it was a pre-made filling so the onion couldn't be removed. When it arrived, it was no more than a small child's portion with bread that was very dry and very little filling. We had a hot drink each which, with a sandwich, is advertised as £6.50pp on their website. On the menu in the cafe it was advertised as £7.95pp. When we went to pay, expecting the bill to be £16 (for 2 people), we were told it was over £21. When we questioned this we were told that the menu was wrong as the manager had just increased the prices but not changed the price on the menu. We refused to pay the higher amount and paid what was advertised on the menu, especially given the food we had was not worth the price we paid at all. Although we didn't get cakes, there was a very limited selection available. The lady working there was friendly but on her phone the whole time we were there. There was no music on and the cafe was extremely quiet with no atmosphere. The cafe looks pretty and is set up with tea sets for afternoon tea, but these make the tables very cluttered and impractical if you're not having afternoon tea, and were not removed from the table. From the reviews, it looks like the cafe is used mainly for tour groups who pre-book and possibly have the afternoon tea which they are more prepared for. If you're just looking for a place for lunch and a cake, I'd try on of the other cafes in Bowness,...
Read moreFairly expensive (£20) afternoon tea for a below average experience.
The tea was served in a pretty teapot (good) containing a single tea bag (bad). At this price point you’d expect loose leaf tea; or at the very least, a couple of tea bags given the size of the pot (shared between 3).
The tuna sandwich had no filling. It was literally two slices of bread, with an invisible layer of non-specific fish taste(?)
The scones and cakes were just average.
The service was good. The servers were very friendly, and the premises clean and Instagram-ready.
In summary, a great spot if you only want to take pretty photos with nicely-presented afternoon tea for the ‘gram. But not recommended if you’re there for the...
Read moreI recently visited this charming tea room and had the most delightful experience. Although it was raining heavily, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with lovely music ,perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The scones were freshly baked, light, and served with just the right amount of jam and cream. :) The sandwiches also tasted great . What made the visit even more special was the service: attentive, friendly, and thoughtful without ever feeling rushed. Altogether, it was a wonderful spot for afternoon tea, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a...
