Stumbled upon this on a walk from our hotel and the traditional pub caught our eye. Looking at the menu most options are traditional pub food which was appealing. I went for the scotch egg to start which was pretty good, not too dense and the sausage meat was not over seasoned. Portion size was pretty large so be prepared. Mains I had the pie of the day which was chicken, ham and leek. You can tell these were handmade the pastry was buttery and light and the filling was jam packed with chicken. Lovely! Portions although looked small on the plate were really filling and I would just opt for a main and then go for a dessert if not full. Service was decent no complaints there at all. We went for the house Merlot (a Chilean) which was really lovely and smooth, too easy to drink. If you looking for home cooking and a full tummy this is the place! Added to this review as we came back for the Sunday roast and it was gorgeous- highly recommend. If I was to make any criticism it would be to have some more greens :) Go early if you want to cauliflower cheese it was sold out when got there :(

For those who wants to order their EARLY BIRDS, don't only ask the waiter girls, ask the cashier. They CHANGED the early bird timing by pen in their menu from 6.30pm to 6pm. We reached around 5.48pm and seated around 5.50pm. The waiters seemed to ignore you (we tried to raise/wave our hands several times) until near 6pm. When they finally wanted to take order, we asked the girl whether we could still enjoy the early bird set and she said 'yes'. After dinner, the cashier told us that we could not get the early bird set because the order timing in their system passed 6pm. The ambience of the pub is good and relaxing. The location is strategic, near the lake. Most of the foods were delicious, the mussel starter was very good with only 1-2 unopened. The chicken rotisserie was a good one. The burger patties were moist and tasty. The sausage was good and I liked its sides. The pork was tender and could be counted as the best dish that we had in this pub. The sticky toffee pudding was very tasty.

Seasonal early meal offers yesterday it was 4pm until 6.30pm 2 course for £16.95 not sure of the cost but you can also have 3 courses.. Good value for money. We got there after 4.30pm by the time we finished our meal the place was full. Recommend going early rather than later. We had pie of the day shown on specials board as chicken, ham & leek.. Was packed full of delicious chunky meat n leek.. Would recommend! Also the chips crispy outside soft in the middle, mushy peas and a jug of gravy.. One of the nicest meals out we have had in a while.. and we are fussy. We opted for dessert I had apple n rhubarb crumble with ginger ice cream ( ice cream was a bit of a small portion) but I wasn't complaining as it was plenty and also delicious. Hubby had sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. He ate the lot. We wouldnt hesitate in returning. Lovely friendly staff very attentive even when under pressure. Service charge added onto your bill.

Displeasure, disgust, disappointment. All of those I experienced during my experience there. Firstly, we came here as an expensive treat for my mother as it was her birthday. On arrival an ignorant man reluctantly greeted us. He took us to a semi clean table after 10 minutes of waiting. He told us the wait for food would be at least 30 minutes which was okay. Any time a person walked past the table violently shook causing my elderly grandma to panic. The shame. The noise of barking dogs and loud children really helped the atmosphere. The meal arrived after about 45 minutes of hunger and pain. This is when the disappointment began. What I thought was a simple, easy meal of fish and chips, obviously was not. The mushy peas - cold. The fish - dry. The chips - basically nonexistent. Although, due to our starvation, we ate it. This torturous meal had to be topped by something, in this case - the pudding. We asked the waitress how long the pudding would take and she said she'd make it herself. How lovely of her we thought. After 10 minutes we had no brownie, so we went to the counter to pay and tell her we no longer wanted it. She straight away said no - we'd already ordered and we couldn't take it off. So, we waited. After 5 minutes she came out with a large box. We were filled with hope, a sense of happiness that we'd finally be given something good. My grandmother opened the box and our hearts dropped and filled with emptiness. I felt like the Grinch with a heart 3 sizes too small. In the box sat £7.50 worth of something resembling a poo. A teaspoon of crushed brownie with some honey drizzled on top. Maybe we could at least have a spoon to eat the monstrosity with? No way - why would I have expected such a delux item from them. The lady replied with a rude shrug and plainly said no and that we were being unkind. Overall, thanks for ruining my mother's birthday and taking £65 plus a non-negotiable tip from my grandmother who spent her hard earned money just to bring some joy into my poor...

We came to the flying pig pub last summer and had an amazing meal. A lot can change in a year.

After we ordered our drinks we were informed that there was no fizzy water. We asked for bottled still water and waited 20 minutes before chasing it up as it hadn't arrived. They then proceeded to give us jugged tap water. We were never refunded for the sparkling water.

It was 50 minutes before the food arrived, and a further 5 minutes before our soup arrived. I don't understand how the main course arrives before the starters. When the soup did arrive it was over seasoned and had a chemical taste. While we waited for our food we witnessed three other tables get their food before us. The rest of our meal was ok, but no way near the same quality as the year previous.

While we waited for a our food, three members of staff sat outside smoking. When we inquired about the food being late or the soup tasting the way it did there was no concern from the staff, and no apology. Hence why I am writing this review.

When we first arrived at the pub we said hello to a bald member of staff and asked how he was. He said, "over worked, under appreciated, and under payed". This was clearly a joke, but all things considered it paints a rather damning picture.

We were really looking forward to coming back to the flying pig. But next time we come to Windermere we will be looking to...

We visited the flying pig on 3 occasions when up in Bowness over new year, we love this pub and have been visiting for years now, every winter when up in the lakes. The 1st night ( 28th ) we had a lovely meal, great to be back in our favorite pub. However the other 2 times wasn't the best if I'm honest. We had Sunday dinner on new years day, the food looked lovely but it was barely warm, the service was no existent, we asked for more gravy, it turned up 15 minutes later, as did the mustard and mint sauce, when we were nearly finished, we got seated down stairs and simply were left there with no staff serving or looking after us and the other diners as well. there were plates everywhere, filthy tables, empty glasses and it was a real let down. I mentioned this to the lady on the way out who seemed to be in charge, she said that they were 2 staff down after the night before, we thought, ok and put this down to a bad experience. 2 days later we visited in the evening for drinks and there was about 5 people in there, the bar was full of empty glasses, there was 2 younger lads behind the bar playing on their phones and the place was a real mess. Really disappointing to be honest, we love this pub, but where is the manager, management, unfortunately we felt it had...
