Me and my fiancée stayed at the White House for 2 nights. Perfect location in the heart of Bowness. Although no parking at the hotel, the public car park is a short walk away and reasonably priced.
Arriving around 7pm after a long drive, I struggled to find the room, I was room 12 but for some reason I thought it said 15 on the email, I called the number on the email and was answered immediately and directed to my room, thanks for that. Room easily accessed by the code sent on the email over a week before check in.
Once inside the room, it was finished to a high standard and felt very modern and comfortable, the grade 2 listed building still has its features, such as the interior stone wall which was a nice touch. The bathroom was spacious, however not much storage for toiletries but we made it work. Also, a lack of storage for clothes, there is a clothes rail with hangers, but if you pack like my fiancĂ©e, expect to leave most in your case. The copper bath is a great addition to the bathroom, and is large enough to lounge around in if thatâs your thing, made even better with a bottle of complimentary Prosecco, I am guessing this is the reason for plastic Prosecco glasses, as they can be used in the tub with minimal risk of injury! Also on arrival there is fresh milk in the fridge, chilled water, tea, coffee and biscuits. Iâm sure I saw hot chocolate as well.
On the first night after going out for dinner and drinks we got back late, the room felt cold, I tried to alter the thermostat and it was locked. I put it off until the morning at which point I could not tolerate being cold any longer. I contacted nick/Grant and was granted access to the thermostat. This was perfect as I got the room to a comfortable temperature. I also mentioned I couldnât get my towels dry, Nick and Grant gave me directions on how to control the towel rail in the bathroom, however, it didnât seem to work, so I was offered fresh towels. I didnât take them up on this but itâs nice to know I could have if required, nothing was too much trouble when I contacted them. Also note in the toilet which is a small room, there is no radiator, with the extractor in the ceiling this room gets extremely cold. Next door, room 11 I believe , the door noise is very noticeable when they are entering and leaving, but other than that the room was quiet, no exterior noise or traffic noise and we had a good sleep both nights.
Bars, restaurants, fast food, and supermarkets are all within walking distance, it is literally central to everything you will require. The Windermere cruises are roughly a 5-10 minute walk, meaning you can leave your car and access other nearby towns or points of interest with ease.
We will definitely recommend this hotel, although it does have some minor negatives, it has many many positives and if we return to Bowness it will be at the top of our list, thanks for having...
Read morePros:|- The hosts are really communicative, you get loads of information regarding your stay, local restaurants, things to do etc.|- The code doors are great, no need to worry about keys.|- Lovely room decor. |- Bed was huge and really comfortable.|- Really nice locally made shower gel.|- Big double shower and great tub.|- Central location to shops/restaurants/lake.|- Ability to use netflix etc (with your own login) on the large TVs in the room along with Now TV etc.||Cons:|- Lack of soundproofing. My husband and I unfortunately got no sleep at all. Due to the central location (which can be a positive) street noise from outside was excessive until gone midnight. Unsure if this is better on a weekday. I could also hear someone snoring in the room above which kept me awake all night. Could hear people talking in other rooms, walking around, you get the drift....|- Lack of amenities. Aside from the shower gel etc, a few cotton buds/pads and some coffee/biscuits there was little else included.|- No breakfast and the only open place to eat before 9am was Costa.|- Parking at Rayrigg is awful. Good luck getting a space, the next long stay is quite a walk away with luggage.|- No hand towel rail next to sink or toilet roll holder.|- The room was roasting all night and couldn't cool the room down. Window wouldn't open in the bedroom and even if it did, the street noise would keep you awake anyway.||Overall I feel for the price (£350 for 1 night) it wasn't value for money for my requirements. The location didn't make up for what it lacked. If you sleep like the dead, don't mind being boiling all night and want to stay for a night out this would be perfect but unfortunately for us staying with a small child this wasn't a suitable place to...
Read moreVery disappointed with their customer service. Looking forward to the visit, two nights mid March. ||Unfortunately, on the day of arriving, we had a car breakdown. Easily proven as we had to join the RAC on that day! ||Absolutely gutted we could not make it and advised them asap. ||Now before I get a standard response, I fully understand their cancellation policy, but come on guys, where is your customer service skills? ||I requested if it was possible to just be charged one night? I was met with a no, only if they could re-let it. That was never going to happen in mid March as the whole place was virtually still bookable on booking.com. I am sure they didnât even try. Why would they? Two nights paid for without having to lift a finger to clean etc? Approx ÂŁ260.00 for two nights without doing anything? I could understand if it was height of season. ||Oh, and to then blame booking.com?||No flexibility at a quiet time of year for a disappointed couple who were looking forward to a break, with an issue out of their control? ||Left a sour taste. Would not recommend or book again. ||I am sure any response will be standard and in line with booking policy, but a little flexibility would...
