The worst Indian restaurant..EVER!!!
Firstly, I chose it purely based on reviews on the internet even though the place looks quite tired and dated. The window in the ladies toilet was open. I was with a toddler, so I had to go to a place where I can order 2-3 things to make sure she would eat something.
I reached there at 5 PM, when there was no other customer.
I ordered a couple of beers, Pilau rice, Dal Tarka (as side), Saag Paneer (as side), butter Naan. So the waiter (the rudest I have ever met in my life) said that we have to order at least one main dish, or he cannot serve us the food. And I was very politely telling but I do not want to eat more than this. But he kept on insisting and being rude that he won’t serve us if we do not order a main. Another waiter was being polite and trying to convince me with the policy.
The rude guy had the audacity to tell me that he is working in this industry since 30 years and EVERYWHERE he has worked, they have this policy. I have never ever heard of a policy like this anywhere, unless expressly mentioned.
If I did not have a tired, hungry toddler with me, I would have walked out. The plates came yellow and spotty but were promptly changed. Also, they kept on playing the same song in repeat mode, so I requested to change the song or turn it off, to which he he replied that have only one CD. I wouldn't mind 1 CD but this was just 1 very short song on repeat, like a torture chamber. After a while they changed the song, which was in loop again. I had given up by then.
Ohhh, the food. Pilau rice was only boiled rice with a little bit of food colored rice thrown in. Dal tarka was good, Saag Paneer and naan were forgettable.
DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE. Especially since, there's lots of good places...
Read moreExperience on Brown skin person in Mela: We entered the restaurant with high hopes to satisfy our palette with Indian food but what we found- Very arrogant and ill mannered staff while taking our order. Wasn’t paying attention to us and was in a rush to remove the menus instead and left us in the middle of ordering, said “finished food ordering” and went to the kitchen to place our order while we were still ordering our drinks. When we said we were still ordering but he said you were still deciding what to order; for god sake even if we take time to place order, they could have said politely but no; We did not like the way he deal with us. After-then, As we were not happy with the service we said; we would like to cancel our order and the staff abruptly showed us the exit door just because the color of our skin was brown. Living in the UK for about 20 years , I have never felt so disrespected and discriminated in any restaurants!!!!!! I believe the people with white skin are respected and welcomed there more than brown skin. If you are Asian or brown/dark skinned please do not go to this restaurant!!!!!!. Never thought anything like this will happen in Bowness on Windermere, just came here with expectations of refreshment’s and good memories but the only bad thing that will remind me of Windermere is bad experience at Mela Indian Cuisine restaurant. I will definitely not recommend any brown skinned people to go there !!!! The management team should teach all staffs to treat every...
Read moreRude staff, tiny portions, racist manager! And now I’m not surprised reading the other reviews, this place needs to be shut down!
Absolutely rude and racist manager (saying “this is the UK!” even though he’s ethnic himself, and we had British people in the group), he is not even interested in having customers. One of our group visited this place before and the portions are TINY! I visited this place with my family visiting from abroad, the first group of us asked the waiter for a table of 6 adults and a child, as we will group eventually. The manager came by our table and with no reason he got so furious and angry. Shaking his head and rudely saying “you told me you’re 6 why are you 7?!”. We were all shocked to his rudeness and simply said “6 adults and a child” as we asked the waiter. Even though I spoke to him privately that that was rude he was still rude and developed to an argument and we decided to leave even though the first group already ordered a large bill. That’s when he started becoming a bigot shouting “This is the UK!”. Even if we didn’t tell him 7 (we did), I have no clue why he would be upset that there are more customers! Or why he wasn’t...
