Each time we've been to Lake Windermere, we've often seen the boats coming to and fro and today, decided to give it a go and do something different. For a little over £18.00 return per adults (from Bowness to Lakeside and back to Bowness), it's well worth it! Although I didn't get the tickets, I was informed that the lady at the ticket office was very pleasant. Being on the water was a great experience, plenty of seats on-board too so was able to sit and enjoy the views from outside, with the weather being pleasant. It was interesting to hear information about certain things, which we passed along the way Upon arrival at Lakeside, there's the Lakeside Hotel, aquarium and also the opportunity for a train ride too. We decided to remain on the boat, which you can do if you are just wanting to do the Lakeside tour. On-board things were very clean, with toilet facilities and also the chance to purchase tea, coffee, snacks and alcoholic beverages too whilst enjoying the journey. The Lakeside tour was around 90 minutes altogether, but there are two other tours that are available too (blue for islands cruise and red for Bowness to Ambleside and back). Would definitely recommend doing one of these, if you've not yet done it, well...
Read moreBowness-on-Windermere is one of the most popular towns in the Lake District, offering a lively mix of shops, cafés, and attractions with stunning views across England’s largest lake. The lakeside promenade is the main draw, where visitors can enjoy cruises, hire traditional or electric boats, or simply sit and take in the scenery. Electric hire boats are an especially pleasant way to explore Windermere quietly and at your own pace. Families will enjoy The World of Beatrix Potter, while walkers can set off on nearby trails with rewarding viewpoints.
Parking can be challenging in peak times, with several pay-and-display car parks that fill quickly, so arriving early is advisable. Once parked, the town is easily walkable, with most attractions close to the waterfront. Bowness also has a good selection of restaurants and pubs, ranging from casual dining to more refined options.
Overall, Bowness combines classic Lake District charm with plenty to see and do, making it an excellent base for both day trips and...
Read moreThe highlight of our visit to Lake Windermere was booking a boat trip (yellow cruise) which took us in a southerly direction to Lakeside. The journey was a wonderful invite into the glorious countryside and hills and tells on all sides. We picked a wonderful day to enjoy the cruise as the sun was out and the breeze was warm.
The boat itself was very spacious and had a covered area for inclement weather where food and drinks could be purchased and consumed. We chose to sit on the deck benches and we're afforded the spectacular views surrounding us.
This cruise is the only one available for wheelchair users but a carer is entitled to a free ticket on production of patients disabilities.
We got off at Lakeside and visited the Aquarium which whilst small allowed great views of all manner of fish with a tunnel providing the best views (free ticket for carer).
We caught a later boat back at no extra cost enthralled by...
