I first tried Homeboy's Detroit style pizza when they were running out of a bar in Leeds city centre. So, so delicious and so different from other pizzas I've had. Ordered another time and it was delicious again.
They then opened street lane and I was super excited. We pre-ordered shortly after the launch. (Detroit style pizza, chips and wings, dips). It did take a long time for our order to be ready but they had only just opened - I saw some other reviews from around that time complaining about this and thought it was a bit harsh. The pizza was lovely again. The chicken wings were anaemic, had to air fry them when we got home. Chips were bog standard and portion was too small. I find the mayo they use in their dips to have an unpleasant taste.
We ordered again, this time to give their normal pizzas a go. No issues with waiting this time. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed. I ordered the scottie pipperoni and unfortunately the base was dry and chewy. I love to dip my crusts but I didn't eat them this time. Good amount of toppings but very greasy. The wings were anemic again. My partner got the jerk chicken pizza and it was nice. It was more spice than flavour, and the quality of the chicken could be better. I think they made a mistake with the buffalo sauce because it was 90% mayonnaise and 10% buffalo sauce on top. Hopefully just a bad day!
I'd absolutely order the Detroit style pizza again. A lot of people love their normal pizzas, so perhaps it's just not to my taste. The wings NEED to be...
Read moreInsanely unprepared for hard opening, sympathetic to an extent, but it was dire. Customers facing long weights from pretty much as soon as they opened, certainly by 6. Staff were rude and unprofessional, huffing and puffing (we get it, youre annoyed but so are your customers), stopped to eat a pizza (that i’m pretty sure had been meant for a customer waiting outside) in front of hungry customers that had been waiting like an hour. Minimal graces - few lacklustre surly sorries and thank yous but the customer service was awful, absolutely miserable atmosphere. Guy on the IG dms was rude too - learn to speak to a customer, basic manners. Atmosphere in general was dead - trying to look edgy with MF Doom records or branding about ‘your mum’s favourite pizza place’ seems like running before you walk when your staff arent warm and friendly, your pizza is mid and there wasnt even any music playing. Pizza was below average, especially considering North Leeds has a lot of good pizza places to contend with, but priced at standard prices if not higher. I’d take a look around and realise that there is good pizza all over this area (Street Lane particularly), with much friendlier more professional service and a more engaging...
Read moreAn expected long wait.
Lots of buzz as its a new place to try.
Good service at the counter, friendly staff and was good to see one of the old Harpos team in the back.
On to the pizza. I got the scotty peperoni as reccomended.
It was.. very dry from the crust into about 40% of the pizza. The topping was...
Tomato base. Not enough of it other than in the centre.. this is the core flavour of any pizza.
Pepperoni.
A really small amount of cheese.
And some everything bagel seasoning.
No onions, peppers, a lack of cheese, a lack of sauce...very dry...
And so far..it's not looking good. Definitely a massive drop in quality and ingredients, and a drop in value to the customer.
Im hoping I can find something to my liking, but this wasn't it.
I got as a side some of their pizza sauce and the chilli vodka sauce for dipping ( this had a nice taste). If I hadn't, I would have struggled to eat the outer half.
Im really disappointed.. .but..will try something else and give it another go. Hopefully they expand the menu as its pretty...
