Oh Dear Park! We are regular visitors to the Deer Park - by regular I would say at least twice a month with friends. It used to be a warm, friendly, welcoming place but in recent months this has sadly changed. We booked a table last week but were called on the evening to say that the heating was not working; this seems to happen regularly, so we rebooked for a week later ( last night). We called to check the heating was working and were told it was.
On arrival the restaurant area was cold, we asked if more logs could be put on the nearby fire, which had died down but was told it would take a while for it to heat up, it did heat up but not for long. There was no evidence of any other heating on.
We waited for nearly half an hour to be asked what we would like to drink, observing staff standing in a corner chatting and when the order arrived it was wrong, my medium glass of wine arrived as a small glass, the waiter offered to take it back but having waited so long I took the small glass.
We waited again to be approached for our food order. The waiter was new and friendly but clearly inexperienced. Two of us just ordered main courses and another decided to go for the three course Festive menu.
The food was mostly fine, my Seabass was not particularly hot, the Fish and Chips and the soup and Turkey dinner all good, although took a while to arrive. By the time we had finished eating, ( with my coat on again, as the fire had gone out and no one offered to put more logs on. N.B there is a note asking that diners do not put logs on themselves), it was about 10pm - we had arrived at 7.40pm! We hadn't been asked if we would like dessert or any more drinks. The festive menu included a dessert so, we called over the waiter to ask if we could order. The waiter went to the kitchen and returned to say the Chef had finished and wasn't preparing any more food. I said that the menu offered three courses and he just shrugged. We asked for the bill, nothing had been deducted for the missing dessert. We were cold, disappointed and no one really seemed bothered. We paid up, couldn't be bothered to argue and also, for the first time in many years declined to...

Food - I was here last Sunday around 6ish after a nice walk in Roundhay Park. I was starving. I ordered the trio of roast, and it was appalling!!! I understand it was busy and it says it’s served all day but if you think the food is not good enough for you to eat simply don’t serve it to paying customers. If there is a chef here he should understand when you cut in to the meat if it is dry no amount of gravy is going to fix it. All the meat, the Yorkshire pudding was too dry. The vegetables may have seen better days. Roast potatoes, were soggy and dry!!! Clearly, no one cared about that plate of food. I had to eat a little because I was starving but I left most of my food on the plate because it was uneatable.
Drinks - I ordered a non alcoholic mojito and it was just lime, ice, soda water and mint. We had to take it back to the bar and asked to stir some sugar into it. All it needed was some sugar and pinch of salt to lift it up.
Service - We conveyed our disappointment to the waitress who served us but she replaced the pork meat and apologised about the food on behalf of the chef. If you are charging £16.50 for a dish, kindly ensure it is eatable. The waitress never even smiled once, was always in hurry and didn’t take her time to explain anything properly. We paid the full price and when we paid in cash she asked if we wanted the change, I though it was a bit weird but we didn’t care because we just wanted to get out of there ASAP.
Please don’t serve any food in that state, I don’t think your paying customers deserve it. Any restaurant food should be passed through the head chef’s approval and I can’t beleive my plate of food was approved by him. I don’t mind your prices but your food should live up to the standards you clearly showcase. You are selling a whole experience and kindly pay attention to these details if you care about your customers at...
Read moreFirstly I’ve seen some of the negative reviews and feel people need to get a grip. For the price, food and experience it’s a lovely pub dining experience and makes for a great relaxing evening out. This is a lovely, relaxing, beautifully decorated pub. Wine is very well priced for the ambience, you can even get Moet for £9.50 by the glass. This is probably the nicest pub in Leeds for a nice, romantic or wonderful pub experience. We had the deep fried Brie which was lovely and lamb Kofta kebabs which were great. I had the fish and chips which was lovely as it was Cod and had a really crunchy batter, fantastic mint mushy pea and awesome chunky chips. My son had a steak and loved it. Tartare sauce I don’t eat but tasted it and it was delicious. My mum thought her cod could have been cooked a little more but i think it was cooked just right. So given Cod cooks fast if you like dryer, overly cooked cod tell them. Desserts had a fantastic menu and we got the brownie which was really good.
As for the comments on service our waitress was super attentive and always checked on us. Given I’ve lived the last 16 years in The States which goes above and beyond for service and a lot of Establishments in England have a lonnggggg way to go on service I would say the service was very good and our waitress who I believe was Anna or Ava accommodated all our needs before even asking. It’s one of the first times I think I’ve been asked if I want another drink instead of having to flag my waiter/ waitress down.
Another big point is this pub offers table service which some nice more high end pubs still make you order at the bar. So it goes a long way for a relaxing evening. Ohhh and one last thing to add the wine glasses, they have really appropriate, proper wine glasses for wine...bonus as I don’t like drinking out of a wine glass filled to the brim...
