Needing a salt and pepper food fix, where better to go try than Salt & Vinegar in Wavertree, the most popular chippy in the area, I was told.
Spoilt for choice, I opted for the salt and pepper Super Box, which was a pizza box jam-packed with all sorts of delicious salt and pepper foods, including chips, siu mai, ribs, chicken balls, and chicken wings. There were also a few prawn crackers, but in my opinion, they could have been left out, as they had soaked up the oils and gone hard.
The Super Box also came with a choice of either BBQ sauce or curry sauce, fried rice with shredded chicken, and two cans of pop. I also chose a salt-and-pepper fish, which was thick and delicious and the highlight of the whole meal. The shop was spotlessly clean, and the staff were friendly and polite.

TLDR: Pro: The food is usually very good Con: Poor service / long waits / missing items / egg shell in food Conclusion: Seems like a great place that has got too busy, worth a try on quiet nights though.
Longer version: Ordered a few times over the last month. First order was lovely, second order was "ok" and missing the sauce for the prawn toast, third order the sauce was put in with the prawn toast (pics) not great but not a deal breaker, however there was large pieces of egg shell in a meal (pics) which is where I draw the line. I took it back and got a refund (had to drive back across the city). We tried Andy's fish and chips instead this week, which was lovely. S+V chippy seems like a nice place that has got popular and they struggle when it's busy. I'm sure they will sort things...
Read moreI used to get chicken balls here and left a review noting they were only good 50% of the time. After receiving a response saying they have made changes to how they cook them, I decided to try them a few more times. At first, they seemed totally different, but now I feel they’re still quite similar. About 75% of the time, they’re too hard with dry chicken inside. It’s disappointing because they’re great when done right but at £7 for just 5–7 pieces, it’s frustrating to only enjoy 2 or 3. I have had them three different times since the original review, the people who run this place seem amazing but its a shame their chicken balls are only good 25%...
