Really surprised at all these 5 star reviews, either everyone has bad taste or we had an extremely unlucky day. To start with, I’ve worked in hospitality myself and the minute I entered there was no hello or please wait a minute, I’ll be with you in a shortly. The place was nearly empty so what are the staff doing exactly? Twiddling their thumbs? After about 5mins we were seated but server was extremely slow with taking our drinks and orders - also didn’t repeat the order back to us or asked about allergies (we didn’t have any but you need to ask people these things!), because they didn’t repeat the order back to us they served the drinks wrong. The curries were extremely runny, ok taste in terms of flavours but nothing exciting. The plates were cold, I’d highly suggest serving guests hot plates to keep the dinner warm. We sat at 7:30pm and didn’t leave until 11pm because they seem to have forgotten about us and not bothered checking in either, we had to make it really obvious we wanted to bill so that we could leave and it wasn’t a busy night for them at all, there was no excuse to be so absent. I think save your money and go somewhere like Akshaya for quality Sri Lankan and South Indian dishes. The only positives were cheap prices, everywhere looked clean, and the main guy (not the server) was smiley and had a...
Read more1st day I chose the restaurant as it happened to be on my way and it looked like an authentic Sri Lankan / South Indian restaurant. I ordered simple and traditional dishes (Dhal curry, Kadala curry, coconut rice etc.). In my opinion the restaurants that can deliver the simple traditional dishes with great quality are truly the best ones. And Shenbagam just blew my mind with the food, specially the simplest Dhal curry. So much so it reminded me of dishes cooked by my mom, even though I am a Bangladeshi. It was truly a “ratatouille moment”. I wanted to write this review right away, but I decided to do so after revisiting and eating the same dishes once again. This is the check of repeatability/consistency. Shenbagam passed the test with flying colours. Both in terms of taste and great service. I also want to reassure that everyone from every ethnicity will be able to appreciate the great quality and taste offered. It is not only for South Indians or Sri Lankans. I observed a diverse clientele on both of my visits, which proves my point. Finally the prices are very reasonable and people tend to come here to hang out and organise cosy parties with close friends and family. On both of my visits there happened to be such small gatherings. In short, highly recommended. It is a...
Read moreI recently celebrated my birthday at Shenbagam Bar & Restaurant, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding, with a carefully curated menu that even included kid-friendly options, which my children thoroughly enjoyed. The Beef Kothu, in particular, was a standout—flavorful and perfectly prepared.
The restaurant staff truly went above and beyond, surprising me with a birthday cake and a complimentary drink, which added a personal touch to the evening. The owner, chef, and staff were all incredibly welcoming and attentive, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Shenbagam Bar & Restaurant is a wonderful choice for anyone looking for delicious, authentic food paired with excellent service. Highly...
