This review is for the way the salonās management (Older Asian lady with black-framed glasses) handled client concerns.
I booked in my appointment through Treatwell to get a Ladies haircut at Jeju Hair Salon, London and was informed that the price is Ā£55. Upon sitting down, I was told that my hair required another Ā£10 charge as it was very long. To be honest, it wasnāt a huge issue but I just wished that I was informed about this earlier, so I sternly but respectfully let my stylist, Bella, know that this isnāt alright because clients may feel ambushed by hidden costs, however small the amount. She was kind enough to understand my frustration and offered to waive the extra charge this time. She informed her manager (older Asian lady) about it and the lady came to me huffing, seemingly want to talk to me about this as she shoved her phone screen in my face and said āSee? We do say it on Treatwellā. I saw a fineprint under āshow detailsā of only their Treatwell booking platform. The fineprint does not contain any price specifications for the extra charge or how they define ālong hairā. Their booking options/price list also do not differenciate prices for different hair lengths. Finally, I also noticed that such costs were not mentioned on their websiteās price list (at the time of my haircut, July 2024). So at this point, looking at all the facts, I did not believe myself to be unreasonable as I truly was not well-informed about this at all, especially as this has never been communicated with me last time either. However, to avoid any further troubles as I really was in a rush and didnāt have it in me to escalate this very trivial problem, I kindly said, ādonāt worry, just add the extra costā. Bella was again kind enough to find a compromise to charge me Ā£5 for it, which I agreed to.
Now that Iāve kindly paid and ready to leave the situation as it is, the lady was still keen to explain to me how I was wrong and that the salon has made an effort to inform clients thorugh the fineprint. Her poor, nasty attitude, coupled with her stubborn demeour, unraveled into a conflict. She proceeded to express to me in these exact words, āJust because clients donāt know about the cost, doesnāt mean that they donāt have to payā. To me, this was an unreasonable explanation because by this theory, the business can just charge their clients whatever amount without appropriately informing them and get away with it. Thus, all I am trying to convey here is that, please ensure your clients are well-informed of any extra costs and provide specified information on it, before theyāve made the decision to make the trek to your establishment for your services. It is only fair to your clients (and stylists too) to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Please understand that your clients have chosen to come/return to your establishment for your services out of all of your other competitors because they thought that theyād be able to leave feeling happy and satisfied, but that hard-earned customer loyalty can easily change with a single bad experience. It doesnāt hurt to recipocate kindness, patience and reason with your amicable clients who are also treating you with reason and kindness. Although I was admittedly acting agitated during our argument, I need the lady to know that I was simply reflecting her energy back to her. Her attitude and the way she handled this issue has turned a wonderful and relaxing day and experience for me into a sour and bitter one, and it has further continued to ruin my entire day. I left without an apology from the lady, but still I said āhave a nice dayā because I felt it was the polite thing to do, especially as it was not my intention to escalate things.
It is not my intention for my review of Jeju Hair to be taken poorly - I am not fishing for an apology from the lady, nor am I trying to deter anyone from coming here, but I do hope that the salon can take my experience as a customer into account and can find it in themselves to admit their faults and improve the way...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo I had my appointment booked for 12pm today. It was my first time visiting Jeju hair recommended by my friend. I thought okay letās give it a go, have asked my friend to join me and see if she wants a haircut in the future..
So upon arrival - spoke to lovely gentleman the husband of the stylist Iāve booked under. He was doing the admin work and asked us for tea and coffee.
Now it was my turn for a hair cut with Eunju ( the stylist Iām also presuming the boss lady) sat me down and asked what kind of hair cut Iām after. I replied do you have any suggestions / recommendations?. Her reply was itās my first time meeting you how am I suppose to know ??? . I sat there for two seconds and thought to myself whatās with the poor customer service and abrupt response ? I ignored her comment and said well Iāve got a few pictures, my friend found one for me she asked if I said I want an inch taking off and wanted little bit shorter with the same kind of style..she then washed my hair etc etc and said with that hair style because the model got loads of layers she needs to blow dry it to create the volume.
I thought its high maintenance to maintain that look. So I decided to go on my instagram, found an old pic of me with short hair and asked her to replicate the look ( this was already my back up! ) but front parting create a long layered fringe to frame my face etc
She then went ballistic and said she refused to cut my hair because I am asking too much ? I mean cutting it short with no layers but only layer the front parting to frame my face is asking too much?
She then said I donāt think youāre ready for a haircut , you donāt know what you want come back another day . I said been waiting for this hair for the past week and now youāre refusing to cut my hair because you donāt want to take the responsibility. At that point, I know my tone did sounded harsh , but she was being so unreasonable and angry for no reason!! She said I kept on saying āthatās fine go ahead thatās fineā and to her it sounded like I was being indecisive and unsure. When I said thatās fine I meant wanted her to go ahead and start cutting as I feel confident with her abilities. She then continued to blow dry my hair, I saw her look through the mirror rolling her eyes and said āOh Godā sorry honey but that was so disrespectful. When she finished blow drying my hair she made another comment and said āIām only a hair dresser but you donāt have to be so rude to meā. My face impression dropped completely I was in shock I sat there quietly when she was blowing drying my hair and then she had to make that comment. My friend at that point had to step in and said to her politely my friend is not being rude, thatās her personality and thatās how she speaks/talks.
Eunju then must have turned away a little and said I donāt like you being rude in front of my family and towards my family !! I was even more confused at this point! How am I being rude in front of your family ? I had to apologised for my āattitudeā she then said oh itās not your attitude itās just me. Okay so why did you create a dramatic scene for no reason ? Just because I said I wanted a simple haircut. I said my friend recommended me to come here and I even brought a friend to come along.Iām here because I trust you cutting my hair.
I have never ever experience such poor customer service in a hairdresser salon. The husband looked calm, I didnāt raise my tone but it sounded like she was extremely stressed. What confuses me even more is that it was only me, my friend, her, her husband and kid all in one room?
I then offered to pay her for washing my hair and blow drying she refused to take my money and said āno I donāt want your moneyā. She was horrible.
This is my first time making a bad / longest review too. Please read guys Iāve been so unhappy since and this was just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a digital perm in late November 2021 and the perm lasted pretty well for a month. I noticed that my hair started getting straighter almost immediately in January 2022. I was quite disappointed that it only lasted well for a month because it was not a cheap perm at all ā priced at Ā£210! Iāve had digital perms 3 times before this and theyāve always lasted a year for me (I am East Asian with hair thatās never been dyed before so I would say my hair is pretty healthy for the most part).
I did contact Jeju Hair on their WhatsApp. I sent them a photo of my hair, and they asked me to come in to their shop again so that the stylist can have a look at my hair and āthey can take it from thereā. Scheduling another visit took another month because of work on my end and their work schedules on their end too.
After much back and forth communication, Jeju Hair asked whether they could call me before I visited their shop. During the call, Jeju Hair told me that they could only give me a 30% discount if I were to do another digital perm with them. I was quite taken aback at first, as I was under the impression that they would not charge me for the second digital perm to rectify the problems that I had with the first. I did not want to pay another Ā£147 for a digital perm that I wasnāt sure that was going to work. And I definitely didnāt want to pay Ā£347 for 2 digital perms that I wasnāt sure that were going to work.
I give a 1/5 for Jeju Hairās digital perm service since it did last for ONE month. I give a 3/5 for the communications that I had with them since it was mostly ācordialā but there was a point in the call where the person on the phone was just giving various excuses of why the digital perm did not work (the frequency of washing my hair, whether Iāve dyed my hair, do I take care of my hair??) Like I get it, but Iāve done the same perm 3 times before, I would say I know how to take care of digitally permed hair pretty well. The stylist that did my hair was really nice, itās just a shame that the perm did not last ā¹ļø
So if you have the same hair type as me (typical straight East Asian hair thatās not been dyed or whatever), I would recommend trying out other salons (My Snug Room/Jubilee Hair/Hana Salon etc.) in London that do digital perms. There are actually quite a number of them that do it and almost all of them are priced at ~Ā£200 (even in central London so it might be even easier making a...
