I've given The Edition 3 stars not as the quality of hotel is 3 stars but from my experience in 5 star London hotels, it just doesn't stack up against other hotels I've stayed, some of these things are quite picky, but noticeable when compared to other similar products. The lobby is grand and opulent, with doorman at the ready most of the time, and for this hotel by far the centre piece of the hotel. The rooms are nice with an almost chalet like feel, and as we were there for a birthday they left balloons, a marshmallow snack, banners and champagne which was a lovely touch! The other aspect that can't be faulted is the location, if you need to be on Oxford Street this is probably the closest your going to get, so if location is all you care about then this is the place to stay near Oxford Street. Now I'm going to get to the picky part, I feel the overall finish wasn't really there for what I've seen in 5 star hotels with details (but highly noticeable details) letting it down. For example the B&O speaker in the room was literally blown, putting out worse audio quality than my phone speaker (not something I would normally use in a hotel but thought hey that's a £200 speaker that should sound good, while I get ready to go out), the tiling in the shower had gaps and was very grubby and dirty, with a lot of chips. In addition the overall lighting in the bathroom was just odd almost a bit eery These are some odd things to be fussy about and it does have a great bed, soft robes and I love the signature throw, but this room was selling for £1200 on the night I stayed. Now the hotel's I'm comparing it to are Claridges, The Montcalm, The Conrad St James, The Trafalgar and the Hilton Bankside, and of all of those, the Edition is priced the highest, being nearly double that of the next expensive on that list which was Claridges. Of all of those hotels every single one had better rooms than the Edition in my opinion, with a higher level of finish and detail to make it special. While the edition is a lovely hotel, I don't think I will be returning, when London has so many incredible alternatives for much better value.

As an ambassador elite member who lives in a Marriott property, I am incredibly disappointed with the service I have experienced here. After one stay last December I put it down to bad luck but after my current stay I strongly advise any Marriott member to avoid staying here when in London. Upon arrival I was informed that my suite nights wouldn’t be honoured, despite email confirmation 3 weeks prior. Apparently the hotel ā€œonly has 6 or 7 suitesā€ according to the duty manager. She also told me that they receive ā€œover 10 ambassador elite guests every dayā€. I highly doubt this claim and it hardly made me feel like a valued loyal guest. They do of course leave you a 1 line note telling you the contrary when you check into your room. I’m still curious, is it 6 or 7 suites.. They also neglected to tell me about the hotel amenities, restaurant hours etc There is no spa in case you’re expecting one. I was given 3 small bottles of water in my room on the second night, with only 1 on the bedside tables despite us being two guests. The guest services line doesn’t work (see video), telling you it’s a wrong number. The second bar was booked for a private event on a Friday night. The manager had a odd attitude when I expressed my disappointment with the experience. The late night room service is beyond average with more interesting options on the ā€œlittle people’sā€œ menu. Apparently spending $150k+ annually at Marriott gets you a 1000 points gift on arrival but no suite upgrades (even when using suite rewards nights), no breakfast and a miserable experience. It didn’t really feel like they cared so best to avoid staying here at all costs. After 15 years traveling bi monthly to london this has been my most disappointing hotel experience. Marriott and Edition, it’s time to wake up. A tired bar (which is now half empty) doesn’t cut it in 2025. The building has potential to be fantastic, please do it justice. One redeeming quality was the quality of breakfast and the staff in the restaurant. They were all very polite and attentive.

Went to the Punch Room. It's an exclusive bar with a great atmosphere. The staff is extra nice. They talk to you well and help you select the best of the lot to make sure you enjoy what you like. Nothing is too much trouble for this bunch. The presentation is very nice and a nice place for chillaxing out of the hustle and bustle. Cool place for a drink after a big corporate event. The place is bit small so ideal for a small group. I can call this place romantic if that's what you are looking to escape to.. I should say the coffee tables are obstructive and not enough leg space. It keeps me wanting to get up or throw my legs all over as not enough space to keep them with mešŸ˜†. I wish the designers would look at the practical aspects of it. Given you go with three or four people and you want to talk, it's natural you will lean forward so you don't have to talk loud and disturb others. So you need bit of space to keep your legs with you. šŸ˜‚. Id recommend the team to use those chairs, sit and take a drink and see how uncomfortable those coach's are šŸ˜†, you will know what I mean. It's a good strategy if you don't want people staying there for long. I doubt thats what you want to achieve out of this well crafted place. I hope you take this as positive feedback and do something about it so people will stay longer at the Punch Room. If you are thinking of trying it out, don't think twice, this is a very nice place. It's upmarket so expect upmarket pricing. They did have a lovely welcome drink to start you off which we all admired. Enjoy this place. Hope they fix the leg space problem soon. šŸ˜‚

Review of superior king room and the hotel

I will preface my review by saying that I love this hotel, I had an amazing experience, accommodations and the staff were wonderful. My detailed review below shows the positives and the negatives, and I hope that the Hotel is able to address some of these issues for the next time I stay in London which will 100% be at this hotel!

Positives

The staff and Service are impeccable. Immediate responses, friendly and professional service, excellent concierge, front desk and housekeeping service.

The hotel is very well appointed, beautiful and very clean.

The room is very well designed, very spacious, clean, warm and Homie feeling.

The bathroom is large and beautifully appointed with gorgeous tile. The shower and bathtub faucets work great, really nice shower.

There is a nice backlit mirror for putting make up on in the bathroom

Large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and shower gel are provided. Really nice products.

Extra amenities such as umbrellas, and bathrobes and unlimited bottled water are provided which makes this day especially nice.

There’s a fabulous coffee service set up in the proper place in the room& Extra pods too

There are lots of drawers and closet space, Chairs and desk space. Easy to put away your clothes and function comfortably in the room.

Management upgraded me to a nicer room- they were very thoughtful and very kind.

The restaurant and bar have given great thought to their menu, and their menus, drinks and food were spectacular. The service in the bar and the restaurant were both fantastic, we felt very taken care of, And felt like they were very concerned about our being satisfied and happy.

The hotel is extremely well located, you can walk to Soho, and all the surrounding areas.

Negatives

The room is very dark and it’s difficult to find enough light to be able to function for normal every day activities. There is no center light, a minimal light over the desk, the lights next to the bed are not bright enough to read the television remote. It’s very difficult to function in the room and I have had to use the light on my phone multiple times.Bathroom lighting great

The bathtub tapers on the inside to the bottom into a corny scoop, To the point that no one with a normal width of the rocks could fit comfortably. The sides of my hips hit the inside sides of the bathtub before my but it’s the bottom and I had to sit suspended above the bottom in the water, very uncomfortable. The tub is very beautiful, just not functional.

The bathroom sink is very long and has a an extremely long tapered sink that reaches almost to the outer edges. Leaving little flat space to put your bathroom supplies. Everything tapers down into the center of the sink. I understand the intent which was to create a long sink for two people to stand at, but the design of the sink is crazy!

The air conditioning system did not work. They were willing to send someone but it was the end of a long day so I didn’t bother. When you turn the air on heat came out.

It would be really nice if the television allowed you to log into Netflix and other streaming services like so many other hotels do. The television in the room limits you to a small select group of channels, most of which do not play anything of interest

The bed is a little bit hard for curvy side sleepers.- The mattress is not bad, just could be a little bit softer.

Although the hotel is well located in the middle of Soho, Soho and the surrounding areas are extremely busy, crowded, and active until late in the night. A lot of drinking, bars, partying. It’s a little overwhelming walking outdoors in the neighborhood in the evenings.

Overall, very happy with this hotel. They do need to take a look at their bathroom fixture choices such as the bathtub/sink choices (Probably out of their control), the lighting and the television options which could be improved. The people in the service make up...

Let me elaborate from my previous review.

This is a great hotel but overpriced. I've paid much less for similar hotels. Unfortunately there is not a star for ranking for value because that is where it mostly feel short. If I had paid less of a premium price my expectations would have been lower. Perhaps I paid a premium because we used a travel agent to book this hotel and we overpaid.

The room was nice and clean. But only had one small window. So it was lacking natural light. We did have a little welcome gift but I believe that was from our travel agent but it was difficult to tell because they got our travel agent's name wrong as well as our name wrong. There was a mini fridge that was well stocked. The beds were comfortable and so were there pillows. The bathroom was clean and a decent size. And the shower had good water pressure. So it was a nice room. I have nothing to really complain about other than lack of natural light but that is hard to come by in London hotels. But I could get similar rooms at a much better price in London.

The pool table in the lobby is a nice touch. I love the high ceilings in the lobby and restaurant. the restaurant has a great atmosphere too. I left a separate review for the restaurant.

I could tell that they try to excel at service. There is always an attendant at the door. There is a concierge in the lobby and a bar with an attendant. I checked in later than the rest of my group and they knew who I was when I got there. I was escorted to the elevator by the person at the reception and she even pushed the elevator button for me. Some others in my group said that they were escorted all the way to their rooms and were given instructions on the lights. That is 5 start service and advice and beyond for the reception desk.

The concierge desk was very friendly and fun to talk with but I wasn't impressed with the concierge recommendations. I didn't think they were very insightful. We were encouraged to go to a museum within walking distance that was free but it was closed when we got there. We got recommendations for a fish and chip place and I don't think the fish and chips were very good. We purchased tickets to a soccer match through the concierge and we were given poor instructions. Our tickets included dinner. They didn't really know where the dinner was served. We had never been to the stadium before so we were flying blind. Turns out the dinner was in a nearby hotel and I wasn't really impressed with the dinner at all. We figured it was a special dinner at the stadium. Had I known it was at a separate hotel outside the stadium I would have just bought tickets to the match without the dinner. And the description of the seats were incorrect. It was supposed to be padded seats. But the seats were not padded and they were in the very corner next to a wall. We paid nearly $700 for those tickets. This was my first premier league game but I expected $700 to get me a better seat. I thought we might be sitting in a luxury box. Anyway, the concierge info on the match was lacking and partially incorrect.

So for service I would give 5 stars for effort but 4 stars for execution.

The location was great. It is about a block away from the action. So it is still quiet but close...

If this place was about 200 less per night, it would be about right. I've stayed at other Editions before and this one is feels dated and overpriced for what you get. It was a crazy packed weekend in the UK, so the rate was high-- Pride, Hyde Park Festival, Wimbledon, Formula 1. We paid 2800GBP for a 3 night stay that included a few drinks and 3 room service orders (nothing over the top with food/bev), so most of that was the room charge. ||Pros:|Service is a 10/10|Room service food is great and fast; though I had to call as the app was not working for a 3 night stay. Annoying.|The staff are all amazing -- lovely, prompt, kind and helpful. |The place is very clean apart from rugs, which are light in color and probably need to be shampooed way too often. They should revamp with some darker rugs so you see less dirt/stains!|Bathrooms are huge. Better than most UK/EU standards and the shower could host 4-6 adults easily. Great water pressure. Bravo! That said, the towels were pretty meh for a hotel of this standard. They need new ones. |In room TV is massive. Maybe the largest I've seen in a hotel room. |The AC actually works-- again, a win in a UK hotel room. ||The reason this is not getting a 5 star review:|* The rooms are full wood paneled like a terrible gross Brady Bunch 1970s den. Who thought this was a good look on the other side of 1981? They need to update this place badly and that has to be the first thing to go. |* They were so kind and gave us an upgrade when we got there (Bonvoy Gold Status). I fear what a non upgraded room size is. This room fit one king sized bed and 2 chairs. Nothing else could fit in there. |* Others have complained about the room lights being nuts and they are. There is actually no bedside reading lamp. Well, there is, but it's tied to the overhead room lights, so you can't turn them off and then turn a lamp on. We had someone come to the room to try and he said... "not possible in this room."|* The deal breaker... the bed is awful. One side was fully gushed in, while the other side was fine. Almost like it had a hole in it. I didn't even ask to move because I knew they were full-- it was Pride weekend and they were booked. We heard them tell several other guests this when we checked in. They need to replace the mattress in room 506 badly and told them this on the way out. I hope it was done before they let anyone else in that bed. They were apologetic, but it didn't make our room...
