Nestled in the bustling and vibrant Brixton Village Market, The Black Farmer stands out not just for its unique offerings but also for its compelling mission and ethical business practices. While some items might lean towards the pricier side, the quality and the story behind each product make every purchase feel worthwhile.

The Black Farmer is more than a market stall; it's a testament to the power of ethical entrepreneurship. The business is dedicated to supporting local producers and promoting sustainable practices, which resonates deeply in today's eco-conscious market. Shopping here gives you a sense of contribution to a larger, positive impact on the community and environment.

Adding to their ethical stance, The Black Farmer participates in the "Too Good To Go" app, which helps reduce food waste by offering surplus food at reduced prices. Their bags are known to be very good and plentiful, providing excellent value and further enhancing their commitment to sustainability.

One of the coolest features of The Black Farmer is the audiosensory room located upstairs. This innovative space is designed for multifunctional use, perfect for studying, relaxing, or even hosting events. It's a quiet retreat from the market's hustle and bustle, offering a unique environment that encourages creativity and concentration.

The atmosphere throughout The Black Farmer is warm and welcoming. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about their mission, ready to share stories behind their products and the ethical considerations that guide their business.

For anyone visiting London, a stop at The Black Farmer in Brixton Village Market is a must. It’s not only a place to find unique goods but also a lovely space that represents the heart and soul of modern, ethical business practices. Whether you’re shopping, studying, or just exploring, The Black Farmer offers a meaningful and...

The Black Farmshop 252 Market Row Brixton London SW9 8LD Tel no. 020 3105 4711

The Black Farmer Farm Shop in Brixton Village is far more than just a place to buy food – it’s an experience that blends quality, culture, and community. Opened in December 2023, this flagship store was founded by Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones MBE, famously known as The Black Farmer. His vision was to create a space that celebrates heritage, challenges stereotypes, and brings premium, ethically sourced produce to the heart of Brixton.

Step inside and you’ll find a vibrant market-style farm shop offering everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to top-quality meat, fish, artisan deli items, and carefully selected wines, beers, and spirits. There’s also a café-bar serving freshly made snacks, meals, and drinks – the perfect spot to take a break while exploring the market.

What makes this shop unique is not just the products, but the spirit behind it. It is home to The Hatchery, an incubator for small, emerging food businesses, giving opportunities to independent producers to share their craft with the wider community. Upstairs, the light-filled mezzanine offers a calm space to work, relax, or join in wellbeing classes and workshops – showing that this farm shop is just as much about people as it is about food.

From its striking design – complete with statues of a cow and calf that have quickly become photo favourites – to its strong social mission, The Black Farmer Farm Shop is a celebration of culture, diversity, and excellence. It brings a taste of the countryside into the city, while staying true to Brixton’s proud tradition of community, entrepreneurship, and resilience.

In short, this is not just a shop – it’s a hub of good food, good people, and...

What a wonderful place. I didn't think that I would be able to find it very easily. But the Cold Harbour Lane route is quite straightforward and quick. I mean that it is very easy to spend all day browsing in Brixton market. But some more good news is that the Black Farmer Farm shop has recently opened a side door entrance. So you can now enter the shop from the famous Electric Avenue (directly opposite the William Hills betting shop) street market side. I was following the story of the shop's development on Facebook with great interest. Now I have visited the shop. I can see why everyone who has helped put the place together is so pleased with the results. In addition to; sausages, chicken, pork, meat pies, cheese, filled wraps, sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, cakes, beverages, condiments and wines. There's a very good selection of readymade meals; beef stroganoff, chilli con carne, chicken casserole, lamb stew etc. Not forgetting a range of specially designed products to help make cooking, storing and consuming these scrumptious products less complicated. All of the staff were super helpful and friendly which helped me to feel more comfortable. I would have loved to be able to purchase more goods but I was limited to how much I could carry. I will have to wait until my next visit to be a bit more adventurous. I must also add that I was very pleased to receive a free bottle 🍾 of bubbly because it was recently my birthday. They are also celebrating 20 years of being in business so these dates must be quite...
