One of my favourite steert arts in London, made by one my favourite and best street artist, James Cochran aka "JIMMY C", dedicated to one of the most iconic characters of London and in the place that for so many reasons I love... Brixton.
As Jimmy C already said last year, I have to admit that something is lost with the protective covering but at the same time I appreciate that the mural can be preserved.
It was so lovely and exciting to see all the love for David Bowie that people have been showing since 10th January 2016 with flowers, photos, vinyls and messages since.
The messages to the Starman, let's talk about that... It's, now, so lovely when people leave messages with letters but not when they write on the protective covering because they cover the artwork a ruin the view and that is not something nice but it's, in my opinion, vandalism.
If you really love David Bowie, please, stop signing (just leave letters or start singing some of his wonderful tunes), because if you write on it you're doing what street art used to be considered: "Vandalism" and vandalism is the reasons why the wall has been covered.
Kudos to Jimmy C not just for commemorating David Bowie, but especially for doing it in the area where he was born and he belongs to but that's not all because Sir Jimmy C dedicated this amazing artwork and showed his love for the "Starman" not only after his death, as everyone would do, but 3 years before (June 2013).
This piece of wall in Brixton thank to Jimmy C is now Art, Music, Culture & Hisotry.
I am so lucky I lived in Brixton between 2013 and 2014 and had the opportunity, with my professional camera, to take the shots I am sharing with you today, showing the artwork brand new and clean.
And to be honest... this artwork is one of the many thing that encouraged and led me to create an alternative experience in Brixton and mine it the was first ever tour in Brixton when tourists and travellers couldn't even find this area on the Maps and when tourist guides thought that the area was or is yet dangerous!
So... "Come and beat the system by visiting the bricks of Brixton and prove them wrong!
This is...

The mural quickly became a focal point for fans and admirers of Bowie, who flocked to Brixton to pay their respects and celebrate the life and music of the beloved artist. Read moreThe first time I went there it was filled with flowers , letters and candles. But this time, it was just the painting on the wall which is preserved with a plastic cover. It is still very nice and a touching memorial. However, it is not spectacular. It's situated opposite the Subway, in the wall owned by Morleys, the department store. From Brixton underground, cross the road and it's tight there. It's a good place to have it though because there are always buskers outside the station playing music. The atmosphere is very urban, with a multi cultural hip, Berlin feel. Brixton village is near by where you can get a multiple of cuisines. Italian, Asian, Caribbean....Market stalls, as well as a lot of afro hair shops. From here there are lots if bus connections to other parts of South London. The famous "Electric Avenue" is...
