This is a true traditional English feeling place, complete with wooden place mats and leather bound menus. A small touch of contemporary is present with the LED candles on the table but it all makes a really nice change from the normal ‘chain’ feel. The interior is all clean and as soon as we arrived for a Saturday lunch we were greeted by the friendly staff. Throughout the visit they all remained happy and willing to recommend options and provide advice.
There’s a decent range of options on the menu and although not the cheapest place in the area the portions are large with a distinct homemade and authentic feel. The large pies had the gravy served in a separate jug and were super tasty. The scampi and chips could have done with an option of mushy peas but was still really enjoyable and filling. It was served in good time and presented well.
The pub’s location is great as well, providing a nice stop off during a sunny walk round the lake. It does have the sense of being a hidden gem than being popular with the whole town, but then it was our first visit. There didn’t feel to be much provision for drinkers only but with plenty of outdoor tables that’s not necessarily a bad thing in the summer. I’m sure we will be returning and for a friendly homely experience I’d...
Read moreMe and my family have now found our new favourite place to eat in Milton Keynes! We stumbled upon this by chance as we were looking for a dog friendly place to eat and Google brought this up in the search bar. When we arrived we were greeted by the landlord who showed us to the cozy lounge area that is suitable for dogs to be in. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We ordered our food from the menu that has so much choice and something for even the fussiest eater i.e my daughter!! Whilst we were waiting for our food to be cooked we took our dog for a walk in the grounds and by the lake-what an absolute treat that was! It was so peaceful and pleasant that you almost forgot that you were in Milton Keynes!! When our food arrived, all I can say is WOW!! It was amazing and there were clean plates all round, even my daughter polished off everything and that never happens!! The pub itself is a hidden gem and has such a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. The landlord and the staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble and the social distancing is very good! If you want a relaxing place to eat with amazing food with wonderful surroundings then I absolutely recommend this pub. We loved it so much that we are going back...
Read moreWe met here for a post Christmas meal with family - four of us. We were surprised that the kitchens were closing at 16:30 & the pub at 6PM - but luckily we arrived at 3 so had plenty of time.
The menu had a large selection of all the standard things you would expect to see in a decent British pub. They did not have enough fish left to fulfil our order, but the apologies were genuine & choosing a replacement for one of the party was simple.
Warm spiced cider was a lovely Xmas quirky offering & 2 of our group had this & said that it was excellent 👌.
The food came quickly, was hot and well prepared, all played were clean at the end of the meal. Pudding selection was good & portion sizes large!
Despite the fact we were eventually the only patrons remaining & closing time was fast approaching, we were never hurried or hassled even when we headed to the comfy sofas by the fire for coffee.
Lovely place, will definitely return if the circumstances bring us to this area...
