The New Preston Market Preston Market has undergone an amazing transformation with a new market hall built under the 1875 Market Canopy and an innovative Box Market under the Fish Market canopy. The glass and timber clad structure of the new market hall will provide a modern and contemporary shopping experience for customers whilst the Box Market - which takes inspiration from markets in London - will offer something a little different not seen anywhere else in the northwest.

Just a lot of fun and friendly people to shoot the breeze. Lots of choices and good prices. The best cherries 🍒 I’ve ever seen. Loads of fresh fruit 🍇 and some nice music 🎶 to listen to while you are looking around. I love Lancashire 🧡

Such a great little market with lots of variety and good quality produce. Has the wonderful Wallace and Grommit statues by the entrance for another bonus to this bustling market.

When I arrived in Preston in 1997, I was greeted by a large banner stating "The Pride of Preston" and immediately underneath it a market stall selling cannabis paraphernalia. Nevertheless, it was alright, not ALL right, but alright, you could pick up some used, worn items that didn't work at a reasonable price and it was quite handy for some local residents. Preston Market had a recent costly revamp. I overheard many, mainly elderly, local residents moaning about it how appalling it is now so I went, hopefully and optimistically, to check it out. There I discovered the same cannabis paraphernalia. However, all of the used, worn items had increased in price five-fold. The same junk was available to buy but now at much inflated prices. I agree with the elderly residents whom I overheard, Preston Market is no longer of any use/ value to the ordinary people from Preston but if you want some junk that you would be unhappy about wasting pennies on, you can now be unhappy about wasting 5 times the price on the same rubbish. What I mean by rubbish is, for example, an unplayable record or a broken walking stick. What an appalling waste of our Council Tax these "improvements" have been. Wake-up Councillors, try to get some sense of what the public actually wants and stop telling us what we want and delivering it despite our protests against the very same. Maybe some affordable housing, something for the children to enjoy, affordable youth leisure, support services for the elderly, shelter for the homeless, frankly anything other than the superficial pretension that you keep telling us we want. NOT that Thank You. The burglars and criminals are really very bad but the harm they do is lesser than the harm of sanctioned benefice. Sorry if you don't like my review but I am NOT perpetrating arson or violence or anti-social or criminal behaviour; actually, I am being honest and...

I visited Preston Market recently on Remembrance Sunday. It is a good place to go to before the actual Remembrance Service begins on the Flag Market in Preston. The reason for this is that you get to see and mingle with the soldiers from the local British Army Infantry Regiment,The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, before they march from Preston Market to the Flag Market in Preston. It is interesting as you can see the amount of preparation the soldiers and officers put into the march itself and also worth noting the amount of pride and time that both the soldiers and officers put into their appearance for their duties on Remembrance Sunday. It is also of interest to watch the soldiers fall in before they set off on the march to Preston Flag Market. The precision they put into were they stand and the precision that the soldiers and officers put into the actual marching itself is admirable. The soldiers and officers are true professionals. What is also interesting is how the soldiers and officers work as a team together. The relationship between the soldiers and officers is more informal than you would expect. If you are interested in watching the British Army at work close hand I would recommend a visit to Preston Market on Remembrance Sunday before the actual Remembrance...

As an born prestonian I have mixed feelings over the new indoor market. Its cold inside in winter and stall holders are charged too much rent for the privilege of a few glass panels to the sides (roof is still exposed in places) The council ruined what was once the hub of Preston Town with this renovation unfortunately.

Moving on to my actual visit. Visited wades banana King, lovely fresh products (admittedly now relocated just outside of the market) but indoors I used the cheese counter where the original staff still own/work, always pleasant and a lovely array of local cheeses which melt in the mouth.

Sadly so many empty stalls now as traders are leaving for cheaper rents and better maintained premises. The market will always have a place in my heart but it is no longer the place to go 💔

Hope the council find some more money to fix the mess caused by the so called renovations and bring...
