I would LOVE to give this attraction 5 stars, the interactive exhibits, lay out, staff and show were honestly brilliant. I had my 8 and 2 year old with me and there was things for both age groups. In addition to which the young lady and gentleman working that day were truly exemplary. So patient with my over excited budding astronauts and Thier tireless questions and enthusiasm. The time spent in the dome was very informative and interactive, felt completely immersive and very in depth considering the audience was three bouncy excited kids!
Sadly, and I HATE to do this, hence why it's taken me 24 hours to post this, the pricing of the tickets does not reflect the size of the attraction. There is one singular room with less than 15 interactive exhibits and then the dome itself. We filled about 1.5 hours here and that was stretching it, when compared to the entire day that can be spent at similar experiences like EUREKA in Halifax for around the same price or the science and industry museum in Manchester or Liverpool for free!
Several small locations like this in the lake District have come together so visitors can buy a single ticket for multiple attractions such as the lakes aquarium, steam train and Windermere ferries. We visited all three of those for only £8 more than this attraction. It might be worth looking at collaborating in this manner with other local attractions to make the price point more reflective of what is to do there.
I really hope this is taken as it is intended, we loved our visit and the children have asked 254369900999999000000 times to come back already and we likely will in the summer when visiting other things in the area. Thank you for a...
Read moreArrived on time for 2pm slot. Our children managed to have a go on 3 interactive things before we were called into the videos but we were told we could go back to them after. Slight problems with the computer but the videos and that member of staff were both great. We were then informed by the staff member from the interactive bit that we couldn't go back in as she'd turned them all off! 45 minutes before our slot was supposed to end and the place was supposed to close! £65 for a 2 hour slot isn't cheap but I was happy to pay for the family to experience and hopefully learn from something different. However when the allocated slot is reduced in time and not by your choice, and you're not able to access the full content that you are supposed to it becomes an expensive and very disappointing experience for the whole family. I've e mailed twice raising my concerns and disappointment but sadly no response as yet (2 weeks). Another disappointment I guess.
Update 5 55pm Monday 8th August I've finally had a conversation this afternoon with Frances, the manager. Thank you Frances for the actions you have now arranged and for getting in touch today to reassure me that this isn't how things normally are. Your comments that my concerns will be acted upon will go a long way to restore my faith in the planetarium. Thanks...
Read moreA bit pricey for the relatively small size (just two rooms in the venue) and altogether doesn't require more than an hour. So I think £15 is a bit steep. However, the show (2 programs - one on alien life, one on the Apollo missions) was very well done - very good graphics and informative. I was actually concerned it would all be aimed at children which would be boring/unappealing to those of us who are not parents - but that is not the case. I felt they got a good balance of making it child-friendly (the show is partly animated) whilst not 'baby talk' - ie quite professional and informative.
Some people say there are 'things you can do at home' - I disagree with that - the heat sensor scan was cool and certainly not an everyday thing.
All in all I felt this was quite good - Polite staff and a good show - but £15 is a bit expensive for just two rooms. £8-£10 would be more...
