I have been going to this Aldi's since it opened and have never been so embarrassed or upset over how I was treated. My husband arrived at this store on Sun. August 4, 2024 at about 7 pm to pick up groceries for my elderly parents. We did our shopping and made our way to the register. I informed the cashier named Yolanda that I would be using EBT and I would have to slide the card a few times then tell her the card number to proceed with payment. She told me ok that's fine. She rang up all our groceries and when it wat time to pay I told her I needed to pay most on my EBT with remainder on a debit card. She entered the amount for the EBT card and proceeded to go through the 3 swipes and the prompt came up to enter the card manually. Yolanda stated that they don't do that and I told her they do and tried to get her to enter the card manually. By this time there was a line of people behind me and she called a manger over for assistance by the name of Josh. He said they don't do it and explained that y'all do and that the register was ready to enter the card manually. He called someone and they proceeded to tell him the same thing I assume. He looked at me while on the phone and had asked a question and I assumed he was talking to me so I proceeded to answer to which his reply was to me "you need to chill out I'm on the phone." I apologized. Next thing O know I'm being asked to show ID. That's not supposed to happen especially when I have the pin. I did show them not only my ID but my mother's ID since her name is on the card. Our last names are the same. Then they denied my transaction. I would like to add that there was a lady right behind me that tried to tell them how it worked as well. I come to this store every month at least 2x for groceries and have done this everytime. This is the first time I've ever been made to feel embarrassed and ashamed for picking up groceries for my elderly disabled parents. You all need to train your people better. Not only in the Snap program but also in store procedures and customer support. I've always been treated so good at Aldi's but y'all really dropped the ball...
Read moreIf you live in Abilene, there is no better place for groceries than Aldi. Cheapest groceries, except for meat. (HEB has cheapest meat.) Yes, you may not recognize their brands, but you will recognize the taste because there are only so many ways you can produce spinach, milk, peanut butter, & all the other generic essentials. They do put in the effort to make their own branding resemble name brands. If you shop without your glasses on, their Creamy Countryside butter looks just like Land O Lakes--same color scheme and no Native American woman. Note that it is actually called Aldi; however, every time you say its name, you will end up saying Aldi's, as if the store belonged to Mr. Aldi. As with automobiles and genocide, German efficiency extends to its grocery stores: Aldi can be run by a single cashier, and, to the horror of American capitalist-hustle culture, the cashier sits on a stool. Lazy European Old World Mindset! This is why we got on the Mayflower--so our managers can write us up for leaning on the counter. Freedom is not free but neither are Aldi bags. Also bring a quarter to use a cart. You'll get the quarter back when you stick the male thingie back into the female thingie when you return the carts (you'll know it when you see it). All this self-service is my only complaint because I'd rather have a human being get paid minimum wage to bag my groceries, push my cart, & return my cart in the scorching sun because I'm an independent...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised with my first ALDI trip and have been back several times since. The produce is fresher than Walmart and better priced. The eggs, milk, meat, and bread too.
They have the brown and serve rolls and turkeys and hams in for the holidays. I spent $100 on a week's worth of groceries for a large family with only a handful of items that I couldn't find, so I picked them up at Walmart. With the cost of groceries going through the roof nationwide, I recommend ALDI.
You put a quarter in the cart to unlock it, and when you bring it back, you get your quarter back. I left 2 on the ledge, in case anyone else needed a quarter, I wasn't the only one. Recommend bringing your own reusable bags, but you can get paper or reusable there. You will bag your own groceries, that is what helps keep the cost down. The cashier did sort the groceries when putting them in the second basket, which was...
