Lake Hood Seaplane Base — Local services in Alaska

This place... Go here... If you are an avid pilot or aviation enthusiast, this place deserves your homage. Why? Only because it's the largest seabase in the world and is right there in anchorage. I have never seen so many pontoon aircraft in my life, nor have I seen pontoon aircraft taking off and landing so many times in a day/evening. A pretty amazing sight. What's even more spectacular is how the airport is planned out. You have this seabase that borders (joins) with Ted Stevens International and strategically positioned in such a way that it's magnificent. Kudos to the design planners! I hope other Yelpers, who have visited this place or walk along it's beautiful trails; which is along the lake's edge, with views of so many different types of aircraft, will consider posting about it. It's not a place you would normally think about touring. It was so sweet seeing the seaplanes take off and land. Just the amount of planes. It's not something you see all the time. Take the little extra time to drive through the base and see the planes and drive right by runways. The signs you see will trip you out. It's just a very cool drive. Even mom enjoyed it. Enjoy...

Very beautiful place for a quick visit on a summer day. A lit of planes ✈️ take off and land in the water, the view is beautiful and interesting. A lot of parking spaces are available and a few park benches are available to sit and watch as the planes land and take off. We took some pastries and spent around 1 hour watching the planes.
