I usually shop at the Coors location. Keller's has a store full of interesting and hard to find foods. The meat is the main draw for me. I have always been pleased in the past with both the products and the excellent customer service. This review is solely for my recent purchases. Four days before Christmas, I went to the Eubank location to pick up a ham and a turkey I had reserved. The man behind the counter was pleasant. He brought out a 13 lb "fresh" turkey. He assured me it had never been frozen but was very cold. He told me twice that it was fresh and would be fine to keep in the fridge 4 days. Thankfully, my brother took it out of the wrapper on Christmas Eve and it was frozen inside with a huge chunk of ice visible. He ran cool water into it for 20 minutes just to dislodge the giblets. He got all the ice out and returned it to the fridge. We let it sit out 2 hrs before cooking it the next day and postponed dinner until early evening to be sure it was thawed before we cooked it. This, after 4 days in the refrigerator! It did taste very good, but then he's an excellent cook. The ham was a huge disappointment. It was 5 lbs., it cost $55.00 dollars and out of 12 people, only 1 liked it. We were all excited to try Keller's in house smoked ham with no nitrates or nitrite or other preservatives or food color. It was a dingy gray color, which wouldn't have been a problem if it tasted good. It was horrible. It had no discernable taste whatsoever. It certainly didn't taste like ham. We expected it to taste like a less salty ham. I repeat, it did not taste like ham, I can't even describe what it tasted like and it was dry to boot. We followed the warming directions precisely, so it wasn't us. So disappointed, it wrecked our Christmas dinner, especially for the nieces and nephews that has requested ham. So embarrassing for me, such a simple thing to warm up a ham and I couldn't even get that done! It was a $55.00 disaster. I'm taking my business to Whole Foods...
Read moreThe best place to buy meat in Albuquerque. It's a little pricey, but really not that expensive (maybe 10-20% more than you'd expect to pay at Sprouts) -- and it is well worth the price difference!
I've been coming here for many years and have bought roasts, steaks, chickens, and turkeys, and I've never had a bad experience. The staff is all extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. If you want something cut or prepared a certain way, just tell them! They'll run in the back and get you the exact cut that you want.
It's also the only place in town you can find certain exotic meats, like buffalo, elk, ostrich, and alligator. Buffalo they always have fresh (including preparations like Buffalo osso bucco), while the others are usually only available frozen. You might be able to order these in fresh though; haven't asked.
This is also a place that's run by real, local people who want to be sure that the customer is always happy. A family member one time had a bad experience with a prime rib he bought there (which, I suspect, he may have just overcooked), and he went back in and complained about it the next day. Mind you, it wasn't rotten or anything like that, and we ate the entire thing -- he just didn't think that it was of sufficient quality. They apologized profusely, asked him how they could make it right, and wound up sending him home with a new prime rib -- on the house. Try that in a chain...
Read moreMan I am so sorry to write this. I have been a long time customer of Kellers and ususally buy for 3 households when I shop there.
Keller's customer service has really declined. Was there 2 weeks ago as Omicron was gearing up. I went in to get some fresh chicken. Lots of new staff. Young woman who waited on me did not her mask fully on. Her nose was peeking out. She handled my order like she hated her job. When she tuned to the counter to tie up the bags, she started COUGHING right on the meat packages. I asked her were you coughing, and she rudely replied no.
I told the cashier who called a "manager" the manager was also rude and said " I will rebag the meat" I told her I did not want it rebaged but asked if I could get a new order. She disappered behind the butcher door and returned with a package that was the same exact price as the one she was going to replace. I asked if she had replaced the order or just rebagged it. She said she had replaced it. But it was exactly the same weight and price as what I had given to her. I did not purchase it and left.
Customer service was so good before and the same staff for years. I know there is new management but I am so...
