I’m a bit torn in this spot. The selection is unparalleled, probably the best in NM. I greatly appreciate that as it’s hard to find staple MTG singles lately as so many are sold on TCG player. I really do appreciate being able to go into a physical store and buy the cards. On the other hand I had two less than optimal experiences there. My first time there I made a list of cards I needed for my first EDH deck, gave them to the employee behind the counter etc. and they seemed very annoyed to be helping me. No problem, I know it’s tedious and I am sure they deal with some really demanding and entitled people all the time. Because of this I made sure to tip the employee 20 dollars as a thanks for their time and to show that I appreciate their efforts. They did not seem to care. Fine, they’re not required to be kind. Another time I was there, the last time, I was there in the middle of the day with a friend and I stood with my list of cards waiting to be helped….for 40 minutes. There was one other person there who took maybe 15 minutes to help and then so,wine else came in and they immediately helped them. I was trying to get their attention but not too annoyingly as I believe this was the same person who was reluctant to help me before, granted that was a very busy night for them. It wasn’t until another employee came in to start work that I was asked if I needed anything. I will admit I was a bit surly by that point and I said “no I have been waiting here for 40 minutes and I think I’m going to take my business elsewhere”. My friend was also quite frustrated at this. I suppose my summation of the store would be it has a great selection of MTG cards but some of the staff are not super friendly or helpful. That’s not to say everyone there is like that and maybe I caught this person on two bad days. So...
Read moreTavern of Souls is more than just a local game store - it's a community hub where magic comes alive. As a long-time customer, I've had the pleasure of experiencing the warmth and hospitality that this store embodies. The owners are two of the coolest people I've ever had the privilege of meeting, and their passion for creating a welcoming space for gamers is evident in every aspect of the store.
One of the things that sets Tavern of Souls apart is their impressive selection of Magic cards. They always seem to have exactly what I'm looking for, and at very fair prices. But it's not just about the products - it's about the people. The owners have brought together a community of like-minded individuals who share a love for gaming, and it's truly special to be a part of.
The atmosphere of the store is always friendly and lively, with everyone having a great time. Whether it's a casual Commander night or a competitive CEDH tournament, the energy is always electric. And the staff are always knowledgeable and helpful, with Kat being a particular standout. Their kindness, respect, and expertise make every visit a joy.
What I appreciate most about Tavern of Souls is the sense of belonging that it provides. As a gamer, it's not always easy to find a community that shares your passions, but this store has created a space where everyone feels welcome and valued. The owners' dedication to building a positive and inclusive environment is something to be admired, and I'm grateful to be a part of it.
If you're looking for a local game store that's more than just a place to buy cards, look no further than Tavern of Souls. The owners, staff, and community are all top-notch, and I feel lucky to have them in my life. Five stars isn't enough - I'd give them ten...
Read moreI went to Tavern of Souls 1 time and that will be the last time. I went in with my girlfriend looking for MTG singles. How to get singles at the store was poorly explained by the cashier and the guy behind the counter. I asked the guy with the glasses and braid how much their Secret Lair sets were and he responded "Varies." without saying anything else or offering to let us see any or give a general price range. I showed him a screenshot of the singles I wanted on TappedOut, he sighed and said "I hate TappedOut" and when I pulled up the website he finally started pulling the singles. He threw them, not set them down, on the counter when he pulled them and acted like I was asking the world of him when literally all I wanted was singles pulled. My girlfriend then asked to see cat tokens and he gave her attitude about what color they were. He gave her the singles box and told her "Good luck". When we were checking out the cashier said they accept Google Pay and my girlfriend tried to use it but her card wasn't supported by their system and the cashier rolled her eyes. We saw a lot more cards in the shop that we need for our MTG decks but we decided not to get them so we didn't have to bother the people working and ask them to do their jobs. I spent less than $50 there and would go more often and would spend more money but the attitudes of every single worker there was horrible.
EDIT: I spoke with one of the owners and they were very nice and apologetic about the experience we had. They seemed genuinely interested about what I had to say about what happened so I've bumped the rating from 1...
