The Los Altos Park, the most recent "crown jewel" for Albuquerque is the least accessible park of all Albuquerque facilities.
The dog park has zero accessibility parking, and is up against I-40 with zero sound barriers making it impossible to have a conversation or even call your dog.
No wonder it's always empty.
The "make the homeless too uncomfortable to stick around" design is extremely effective.
Zero shade, zero protection from the elements, and the water comes out of the fountain with such force dogs are scared to drink out of it. I understand why the homeless encampments are absolutely not an issue at Los Altos, I don't want to be there either.
Congratulations! Tax dollars spent on a great idea that was executed with what we are all learning is typical failure. It made a nice photo shoot though.
Why doesn't Albuquerque start putting the necessary resources into affordable housing and housing vouchers to prevent homelessness, get people housed and then work towards sobriety, so we can all start enjoying the parks Albuquerque used to have restrooms, shaded picnic areas, and...
Read moreGood dog park here. Divided into two sections with one for large breeds and one for small breeds. It's difficult to walk through the large breed park. It seems on that day the humans were sadistically ignoring their pups and allowed them to jump up on us. After that nasty experience, I learned to park on the other side near the softball/baseball fields to spare myself the mauling and get my small dog to her park. There are dump stations with waste bags. Plenty of shade and some grass makes the visit nicer than many other ABQ dog parks. Bring water and be prepared to share it! The only real downside is the very close proximity of I 40 - noise! Do not get ahead of yourself! Keep poochies on leash until you enter the first gate. You will be fined for sure otherwise. The temptation is strong to let them off leash to run as you walk into the lush grass and...
Read moreSuper sad place nowadays. My grandpa used to play in softball tournaments here, and my most recent visit was to see a long time friend who....LIVES there!!😭 I have first hand experience with the plight of homelessness, and it took a lot of hard work, dedication to my own cause, tons of negative comments and dirty looks from the surrounding community! Naturally I assume the position of defending those who are in the same position I was in. While still in said predicament made a vow to help ANYONE who needed it. To anyone reading this, I urge you to remember that. not all who NEED help, WANT IT. PLEASE be kind to those less fortunate. Obviously, I am not suggesting that these folks are all innocent, HOWEVER, some really are. Being held accountable for things out of one's control is a terribly lonely...
