[November2022]: Another great visit. [April 2022]: Still completely happy with the care I'm receiving at Grand Valley Dentistry. Today's procedure was another routine cleaning, polish, and checkup, and I'm pleased to say everything was as expected with no new issues. Dr. Carbonell came in and evaluated my dental condition once Felicia completed her work, and continued my current care plan. I'm scheduled for a second crown later this week. I regret not having this level of dental care available in the past, but I'm thankful for it now. [Sept. 2021]: Felicia once again checked, cleaned, and polished my teeth, taking special care to ensure that the previous work I'd had done was all in good condition (it was) and especially that the issues uncovered in my initial appointment were not recurring. The appointment passed quickly and painlessly, and I was left once again with that fresh feeling which makes regular cleanings so desirable. [Later June, 2021]: Assisted by Shauna, Dr. Carbonell prepared one of my teeth for a crown; then Shauna took a series of measurements from that tooth and, like a fine artist, sculpted the design of the new crown to make a perfect match to the shape and shade of my existing teeth. In a very short time the new crown had been prepared - it's all done right there in the office - and Dr. Carbonell, with Shauna's assistance, installed it. The fit was perfect; the whole appointment took less than an hour and a half and was painless - even the cost kept me smiling. [Early June 2021]: After the therapeutic work done in February, this was my first "standard" checkup and cleaning at GVD, and Felicia did a wonderful job of it, leaving me with that healthy feeling a thorough dental clean-and-polish offers. The new dentist, Dr. Carbonell - Dr. Trapp has moved on - checked out my condition and suggested the first crown should be done soon to avoid the alignment problems which could otherwise arise. [April 2021]: A big thank you to Dr. Trapp and Shauna, who brought me through what I believe was the worst part of restoring my dental health, the extraction of a pair of recalcitrant wisdom teeth which had caused me problems for half my life. Both required extreme measures - one had roots like an old maple, the other had grown in at an obtuse angle - but with infinite care for my wellbeing as a patient, Dr. Trapp, with Shauna very ably assisting, successfully completed the procedure, improving both my dental and general health. If Google let me give more than five stars, Grand Valley Dental would get them.
[Feb. 2021]: For various reasons I had been unable to see a Dentist in some time but when Grand Valley Dentistry opened near my home I felt it was time to catch up. I knew I had several issues and was apprehensive that I was in for a shaming, but when I called they set my mind at ease, and did so even more when I arrived.
My visit began with a thorough checkup, during which it was made clear that Grand Valley Dentistry's staff and I were partners in correcting the issues before us - there was no sense of them "straightening me out" like a disobedient child, as some other Dentists have been described as doing. We matter-of-factly talked over the issues and I was advised which warranted a high priority, which were less significant, and which could be considered optional. Costs were given up front, both for my budgeting and for comparison if I wished to check other offices.
We then proceeded to a "deep, therapeutic cleaning," which was done by Felicia after application of a gel anesthetic and with great care for my comfort and wellbeing. At the end of that very thorough treatment I was given time to discuss and schedule follow-up treatment (of which there will be quite a bit) and once again given the opportunity to ask questions. After receiving some additional advice on products and practices, I paid for today's services and was sent warmly on my way.
I highly recommend Grand Valley Dentistry if you need or are considering a new Dentist; I could...
Read moreWhile the care is professional given the credible licenses obtained by the Dentists and Hygenists here, the experience is not great. In terms of insurance billing, you will have to remind them of scheduling appointments and getting the care you need as they have waited too long in the past that my insurance claim approval expired. Secondly, the staff are money hungry and do seek to make a quick buck even if it means miseducating the patient.Be aware, that the reviews on this office are inflated due to the staff offering gift cards for positive reviews. I was talked into buying an unnecessary flouride toothpaste which cost $30 despite it having technically less flouride than OTC Sensodyne. Then, to make matters worse, i was told that I should get a panoramic xray which cost $183 to prepare for my upcoming wisdom tooth extraction that was going to be done at a separate office. The hygienist assured me that this was the smartest choice and that the ortho surgeon office “would charge way more”. They didn’t and in fact the xray from here was not even used. I saw Dr Garcia-Ortega and was tended to by two different hygienists. I found Dr Garcia-Ortega to be very condescending in his care style—taking little to no consideration of my health anxiety listed on my patient forms. I am someone who was looking to be educated finally as a college graduate adult who is seeking to improve their dental health. He keep insinuating that I wasn’t flossing but offered no tutorial or advice—just assumed ignorance on my behalf. Thankfully, I was able to find a dentist on tiktok who demonstrated the correct way to floss by flossing beneath the gum line 3-4x per tooth side. Do better Dr Ortega. Given your shared experience of having a rough experience with dental care in your past, id expect you to be more sympathetic towards your patients. As it stands you and your staff are contributing to the culture of “scary dentists office” which later result in worse patient outcomes that you then shame them for. Even though you service mainly medicaid patients, does not mean you should treat them with any less dignity and respect. I thank you for at the very least helping me determine what I do NOT want...
Read morePlease do not come here, I am currently a patient and didn't have a problem until recently. I have to have a surgery done and they told me they would call when the stuff they need comes in and it would be about two weeks. It's been a month and I have not heard anything so I gave them a call told me they would give me a call back once they knew the awnser. Two days later I give them a call back because I didn't hear anything and they said they were going to put me on hold to get the awnser again. The call ended and heard nothing so I tried calling them a couple more times and even left a voicemail to call me back since they didn't pick up. At that point I have had it and needed awnser's since the doctor was persistent in getting it done ASAP. I had to physically go into the office to figure out what was going on, then made me wait 10/15 minutes because my scans had to be re-done. I was in the office for about a hour in total...it's been over a month since my previous and no one looked at my case. The front desk was told on Monday after my first call this week that they needed to contact me to get me back in and no one even tried to contact me to tell me. No one at the front desk apologized for the mishandling of my case or took notice of the wrong doing, the front desk person played it off like it was nothing. The only person that apologized was the dental assistant Shauna. Once my surgery is done I will be discharging and not recommending. Most of the positive reviews are because they do raffles for...
