I shop here 3-5 times per week. The staff is friendly and so is management. The store is clean and laid out nicely, and all the items seem front-faced and well-stocked.
The two issues I have are:
their marked-down meat is a gamble. About half the time it has a funky smell to it. Meat, poultry, and fish should not have a noticable smell. I think their butcher keeps meats out a week longer than anyone should, just to see if it will sell. Beef should be red, not brown. Pretty disgusting.
one of their associates who was working in customer service gave me attitude when I pointed out I was charged normal price for a sale price item. Weis' company policy is that item is free up to $10, then I pay the rest. The associate tried to give me the regular difference instead. I pointed out the store policy and she said the store doesn't follow that policy anymore. I asked why the policy is still posted all over the store, including in front of me and at cash registers and she responded, and I quote, "You're really the only one who pays attention to that." -- yes, I do, because every third or fourth trip I'm being over charged for something.
I made her give me the item (loose whole green beans) for free (per store policy) and called the 1-800 number after leaving the store and told them what happened. For all I know 50 other customers got charged full price and never noticed, or maybe the associate working CS was pocketing the difference.
I received a call a couple days later from the store manager...
Read moreThis has been my go-to grocery store for a year since I moved around the corner, but no longer. Yesterday I was shopping with my teenaged daughter, who grabbed a bottle of wine out of my full hands and put it down at the checkout. I immediately get a smarmy "may I ask how old she is?" from Pearl, the cashier, and a subsequent lecture: "she shouldn't be carrying that alcohol SIR". I asked her if it was illegal, to which she replied, "I'm really not sure, be you shouldn't let her do it". I made sure that she understood that it is in NO WAY her job, responsibility, or prerogative to give me a sermon on what I SHOULD allow my own child to do. They pay you $15 an hour to use a price scanner, not to moralize and judge your clients about things that are not illegal, and absolutely none of your effing business. Escalated the complaint to a manager, who gave me the same obnoxious and ignorant sermonizing: "well it may not be illegal but you SHOULDN'T." Well, Weis you SHOULDN'T hire ignorant and patronizing people who can't resist the opportunity to feel better about their miserable lives by pretending to know better how my children should be raised than I. And I definitely shouldn't patronize your...
Read moreToday 6/19/20 saw German Shepherd dog in the Weis Market store at Cedar Crest location, dog was on the leash but the dog was not a service dog because it had no west or anything that said it was a service dog. Weis market employee that was sitting near entrance at a table was facing the entrance as soon as people entered, this weis market employee said nothing and did nothing about that non service German Shepherd dog. How could this Weis market employee not know it was not a service dog! How could weis market grocery store place that lady employee at the entrance not knowing about service dogs! That is poor management Weis market grocery store at Cedar Crest in Allentown!I think she just didn't want to say anything! The German Shepherd dog probably was not even a therapy dog because usually therapy dogs have a some type of identification stating dogs are either therapy or service dogs. Only service dogs are allowed in grocery stores and any store or anywhere and service dogs wear service dog vests! Weis market why would the management care, they probably don't even know about that service dog wears a...
