My family and I planned my daughter and my cousins daughter 3rd birthday party at the howard Johnson Allentown, PA. We have been to other Howard Johnson hotels in New Jersey and Atlantic City and liked there hotels, so we thought it would be safe in Allentown. Apon arrival the room was very dirty and the floor was unkempt. The toilet wasn't flushing and there was only one plug to plug our phones to and even that plug had the air conditioner plugged to it. It was late (around 11 pm) and my child was hungry. I want to the front desk and was informed they had just renovated the room and it hadn't been occupied since and that the clean up crew would be there in the morning and they the manager would also come talk to me. I checked other hotels and none in my price range were available. I then informed the lady at the desk that I would clean the room and asked her to make a note. She then informed me that the manger would handle my problem and maybe even reimburse me some of the money from my stay if I had to get anything. I gps the Walmart Close buy and went and brought bleach, bleach spray, I candle for the scent in the room, King size sheets for the bed, and Lysol cleaning spray. I had to clean the room because my child touches everything she was two turning three And we both have asthma and it was Dusty. And I believed the front desk lady story. My baby was tired from the drive and crying and I was tired and there is nothing else I could have done because it was late and I was somewhere I had never been and didn't know my way around Allentown. After waking up the next day we went out to get last minute things for the pool for the children. There was a couple fussing at the front desk about a bug but I didn't pay it any mind thinking they may have had a spider or something in their room, ( I have never been in a bed bug situation and I have traveled many places) , any way when we returned the rest of my family was checking in. We went into the room to bath and get ready and when I turned on the light there were little bugs on the wall. I called my fiance over to take a look and was told it was a bed bug. I went to the front desk to complain and get money back and talk to the manager. The same front desk lady from the night before then started talking to me very ignorantly as if I did something wrong. I even showed her the bugs! She changed up from the night before. She was very defensive and telling me she couldn't help me and they the manager was busy. The same manager that she said would come talk to me wasn't even coming to work. I asked for the number to the manager and she called her. The manager told me that she was in an important meeting and that she could reimburse me for one day when I was there for 3. I asked her, "didn't she think bed bugs in her establishment was important. " She informed me she could only help in that way. As I'm talking two other families came out complaining of bed bug bites on their children. Then my family came from their room to tell her about the bugs in their room as well. My aunt found the corporate number where I made an report, that I am waiting on feed back from. And my money back. I had to use money from the child's birthday to find another room because we were far from home. Our children's 3rd birthday was ruined and by time I find another room their party was shortened after spending so much money. I was so disappointed in this hotel. Never have I ever been through something like this at a hotel. My child was there and that's what really makes me upset the most. And while all these people were out in the lobby talking to corporate the lady at the desk was threatening as, telling us get out and that she was going to call the police. We didn't understand what we did wrong. But someone had came in for a room and she said we were disturbing her business. But helping her costumers should have been a priority. There were 4 different families there not...
Read moreTO ANYONE PLANNING TO STAY HERE WITH THEIR FAMILY/KIDS, PLEASE DO NOT. I hear that many people go to this hotel as a last minute stay because of how close it is to Dorney park, please, I'm 21, and it's not safe. It's unfortunate that I even have to write this review because the man working the counter was so polite, however that doesn't make up for the hotel itself. My girlfriend and I planned a trip to go visit her hometown, rather last minute, and settled on this place because it's close to it. Mind you, a 6 night stay. Prepaid. All of their pictures are from many, many years ago. The second you walk in a wave of fresh piss and mold hits your nose. " Whatever, maybe they haven't cleaned yet ", but no. The pool is a sad puddle that leaves your skin itchy, the hot tub is never available, the carpets are all so old they're crusted over, genuienly. It reeks. Don't even get me started on the rooms. The second you walk into your room it feels like being sucked into a trap house. I have plenty of pictures, but in summary, they have one lone elderly cleaning lady and there was black mold on the ceiling, the smoke detectors are destroyed, blood stains on the bedsheets and walls, along with big dirty handprints, the bathroom trash can was full when we arrived, there was a used towel in the bathrub, and last but not least, the ROACHES. They loved the desk, microwave, light switches, mini fridge and tv stand. Also, there are people who literally live here and destroy whatever isn't already trashed. Anyway, nasty stuff aside, this hotel is not in a safe area, don't bring your children here, please. We were both followed, there are groups of people who just appear every single night, we had an uber to somewhere else for the night and when we walked out a group of guys just slowly started coming closer and closer, mind you we were only in the parking lot for half a second. We only ended up staying for 1 out of the 6 nights I paid for. We were promised a refund for 4 out of the 6 nights, however you have to fight tooth and nail for it, and they tell you to go bother somebody else about it, whatever booking company you used, and that they can't answer or help anything. When we were checking out, I came down to tell them we'll be packing up and leaving early, they said ok, and we were in our room for all of 2 minutes before somebody was knocking at our door repeatedly and calling the phone to ask if we're gonna get out. What a waste of a trip and my money, to say I'm disappointed would be such a massive understatement. Please stay safe. There are a few other very nice hotels somewhat close by to take your family to for...
Read moreI'll get straight to the point we got a room which was very affordable and which were not expecting very much since we just needed a place to sleep however that place had a putrid smell of rotting corpse and I'm not exaggerating it turns out there was blood splatter all over there orange painted walls not even attempted to be cleaned the card access did not work and the inner lock was completely broken off the hinge for good reason prior to our stay two people had committed suicide in that room but they had no problem renting it for 2 days to my wife and my nine-year-old child you would think they would repaint and sanitize that room we demanded another room immediately immediately. tired and couldn't book another room once we got the room the night manager was very condescending and rude and did not care about our safety and concerns I would never go back to the Howard Johnson's! Many other horrible things happened during our stay there not to mention a lot of drug addicts and prostitutes roaming around I guess you get what you pay for all we needed was a place to sleep so we can enjoy our day at Dorney Park! We did not get Composition!!! Anyway and needless to mention but I must my sink was clogged so they handed me a plunger! Very unprofessional! Not that race has anything to do with it but they had people from India running it I mean they all had dots on their heads which I assume that's from the Indian culture! I feel if there going to be in America and run in American Business have American Standards! Unless you're a drug addict or prostitute please people beware do not go there it's the one down the road from Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Pennsylvania! Might I add they never clean your room when we ask for new shoes and it turns out that we ended up with bed bug rashes I would take this to the next level but I really just want to put that experience behind me! These people have no pride and have third world hygiene! I'm fully aware it's a Howard Johnson and not the Hilton however at least sanitize the room and repaint do something it was evident that something horrible had happened in that room previous to our stay! The night manager had the nerve to be upset with us because every time we had to go into that room we needed him to use the master key to let us in as if we were going to pay for a room that we couldn't even enter freely! all I did was make a complaint to the Board of Health and call the Better Business Bureau other than that I can't imagine that place being in business for very much longer so my work is done! I will never go to a hotel like...
