Menards — Local services in Altoona

I received terrible service. I needed a cleaning product for cement. My husband and I walked to where the cement was located and couldn't find the cleaner. Two gentlemen standing at a near by counter told us that cleaners were in Plumbing and that sealers were in Paint. We walked over to Plumbing. Two workers were walking up an isle and they told us that everything would be in Paint. We walked over to Paint. A worker putting items on the shelf told us she couldn't help us. We then stood at the Paint counter. Two workers were working on mixing paint. Neither one would look at us. One of the workers stood by the paint mixer and watched it as it shook then walked over to where his mic was hanging and played with it. The other worker kept coming and going. The worker with the paint mixer left and looked at a shelf with paint, didn't retrieve anything then came back and looked at the mixer again. The other worker came back, didn't look at us and continued to look something up on his screen. I started to laugh in disbelief and he finally looked at us. I told him all I had was a question about where they would have a cleaner and he told me I would have to wait because they were busy. We left and went to Lowe's. In and out...

Great place for building materials at a good value. Building material staff is easy to work with and willing to help. Paint department is very willing to get things right if something go wrong. No one is perfect and we are all human, but those that choose to do what is right in the end stand out above the rest.

Update to our review. The manager Dale was VERY uncooperative this evening and NOT good at customer service at all. In an industry where customer service is the MOST important thing you can do in such an industry he alone failed tonight. I have worked with MANY other persons at this particular store and they are all very reasonable about the condition and quality of their products. Dale however was not cooperative and very rude. We promptly went to the Ankeny store where we worked with the manager there (Mark) and got what we went to the Altoona store to purchase at a reasonable price for the product we wanted. Why was Leslie so rude today? I had to return an item to the southside store and they did not have the same item in stock. I was told to pick up the item at Altoona where I met Leslie who was not helpful and smart-mouthed. I showed her my receipt and that I paid $259 at the southside store. It was $269 in Altoona. I asked her if she could price match the southside store and she said, "No our price is our price. If it was marked differently, then that's the southsides fault." Very rudely she stated this. So I ended up paying the $269. Not worth the fight with a young kid. Price matches between stores should be automatic, especially if you have the receipt. Yes, it was only $10 but still. Customer service is key and there was none today in Altoona. DONT SHOP AT THIS MENARDS or you will have a power struggle with Leslie.
