I bought a used Xbox x, a battery pack, a used controller, and two games, one of which has a new tag on it! I was excited and didn’t bother to look closely. Realized BEFORE playing the game, that it was on gamepass, so I went to return it. The price tag was directly on the game case with no plastic or anything else. Upon taking it back and getting called a liar (that it was sold to me with the plastic and that I lied) I showed the employee that the GameStop tags were on the game case itself and if there was plastic on it when it was sold to me as new, the game stop tags wouldn’t be on the case. In fact upon further observation now that I was mad at their dishonest employees and dishonest policy, there were about 3 tags on the game including one behind the “New” sticker saying “$34.99 was $69.99.” When I showed the employee that, his excuse was “prices change all the time” and if “you bought it without the plastic cover, then you knew you weren’t getting your money back because think of Walmart or any other stores.” When I mentioned that I bought a new game and it is not my decision how the merchandise is sold or with or without certain packaging and it was implied that it was sold as a new game with a new game price, I should get my money back. Even the customer service guy I called after they gave me the number said the GameStop price tags for new games would go over a thin pastic wrapping around the whole game (one where you would not be able to open the case without removing it including the price tags as for New games the price tags are not on the game case itself). They escalated my concerns to the district manager and I will be waiting to show him my game case with the multiple different price tags on the case itself. The manager even sold me this and he’s the one who called me a liar!! Would’ve been okay with store credit but the game I want is only available on game pass as they only can order the ps5 version of that (that isn’t their fault), however, do not call me a liar and then give me excuses as to why you guys did something then blame it on my oversight when you should be more honest in business practices. I don’t like being called a liar and then being told the reason you sold it to me like this in the...
Read moreI was sold I COUNTERFEIT copy of Street Fighter 5. Took it back, they were able to look up the purchase, get a purchase history, but said I needed a receipt. Understandable. Fine, but there is a problem when the receipt is not something you own anymore because you didn't expect to get sold a COUNTERFEIT game. Unacceptable. It was completely wrapped in plastic, I get home and it was a Blue Ray Case with a printer paper of the game art on the front. The game itself???? A blank CD with the game art of Street fighter on the front. No PlayStation watermarks or nothing. So I call GameStop Customer service and only after 2 HOURS did they refund my game. I have nothing against GameStop, I am a Best Buy Employee and even if we take fully wrapped returns we check our games. And the best part is when we called another GameStop I regularly go to they said they could help me with or without the receipt as long as I had the power up rewards used when buying it. NO EXCUSE! What if a kid had got that for Christmas and dad had to say, sorry son. We can't play the game because GameStop sold us a counterfeit copy. Sorry buddy but you can look at the case. I would be more than willing to speak to a store manager but when I came in the store the only helpful one was Nick. 5 stars for him. Minus the waste of a 45 min drive to Altoona. Everyone else looked at me like I was crazy. I have shopped at GameStop for 7+ years and from now on I will express my experience to anybody thinking of going there. Sorry you have to lose CUSTOMERS because you can't check your returned games. Unacceptable. GameStop in Altoona will never receive my service and none of my friends or family services...
Read moreGameStop sells all types of video games and more - you can find deals here, other times, the pricing is overblown v online retail. Trade-ins are welcome, but the amount of credit given is a convenience with reduced yield vs privately selling them one-by-one, but is immediate instead of days, weeks, ...years..(?) Amazon's trade-in process by comparison is even lower yield with the added wait, plus you have to do a lot more legwork.
The biggest problem I find with GameStop is their checkout process - if you want to purchase a game, the time required from handing the teller your selection and the end of the transaction is unacceptable...up to 10m regularly. This isn't an issue of staffing; it's just the process of the transaction and the steps involved, paired with dated checkout hardware. Inevitably, no matter time of day, expect to wait in a line; if it's busy, Amazon.com can deliver ...sometimes..(?). This is the worst aspect by far shopping...
