[Review starts in second paragraph] quickly I read a review stating that they are "Very discriminatory to African Americans." That's the actual quote. I want to go ahead and state THAT IS NOT TRUE. On numerous occasions I have seen more than 1 woman of African descent working there. But perhaps on the day that particular customer was visiting, there were none. I really hope people aren't race baiting at a time like this.
The store is very small, but well kept. I've never had any issues with the workers, however from time to time some of the ladies tend to be a little "unfocused." I could definitely see how some could read them as annoyed. Like all places some people on the staff are nicer than others.
The selection for women's clothing seems to be alright. I'm not a fair judge on this because I'm not a woman. But so much as I can tell it's solid, suggesting you have reasonable expectations. As for the men's department, I think for your average Joe it's fine. Personally, I have never purchased any clothes from the shop. I've sold much here. Often accepting much less than I should. But they explain how they determine what they give, so its no problem. If you have very expensive items, please note that you will never get much for it. You would be better off selling online. I once tried to sell a pair of Santoni shoes, wouldn't except because they wouldn't be able to sell them. Typically I don't think the crowd that buys from Plato's is looking for higher end stuff anyway. With all that said, Plato's closet has bought me lunch + filled my gas tank plenty of times. So if you need a quick $20-30 right away and you've got alot of nice clothes in perfect condition (you don't want), you might be in luck.
You will receive a little less than half of what they will sell each item for. So find the priciest thing in there and subtract 60% of it to get some idea of what you could make. I can usually guess close to the amount I'm going to get now. And also remember; try to SELL IN SEASON!
One last thing I have noticed, depending on which employee examines and prices the items you've brought in also could determine how much you get. I definitely feel I have a better chance with certain people there. I've even walked out with $80+ from selling once. Which isn't much, but for this place it is.
Overall the place is just alright. Below average experience for sellers, I assume good for buyers since they've been in...
Read moreJust purchased a Columbia Fleece outer jacket for my teen son marked "clearance". Unbeknownst to me was that the jacket was missing the main zipper. Yes... the jacket had absolutely NO zipper with which to close out the cold. We discovered this only after I returned home & my 14yo son tried it on. I tried to return asking just for store credit. The store rep - Abby informed me they would not take back the jacket as it was marked "clearance". And that because their buyer "made a mistake" they marked it clearance (30% off original price). When I emphasized that I only wanted store credit and that I would gladly choose something else for my son. I suggested that if they were passing a "mistake" onto a customer, that they should do so with transparency and clearly mark the tag with a note indicating the items flaw, e.g. write "missing main zipper" on tag. Otherwise, I suggested, the omission smacks of deceit and is unethical. She seemed unconcerned.
Abby & other employees said with a laugh, "we don't even know how to do that". Meaning they don't know how to do a store exchange. I couldn't help but notice an air of smugness when she said this. Abby was quite bodacious and loud as she exclaimed a refusal in front numerous customers. I felt humiliated and defeated. So they refused to accept the jacket back. Adding insult to injury, Abby offered to take the jacket and donate it!
I am a seasoned shopper and loyal customer of Platos. We've purchased clothing for all 3 of my now teen kids for the past several years over the course of numerous growth spurts including a current growth spurt my 14 yo is now experiencing!
I don't appreciate the disrespect nor the blatant disregard on full display for other customers to witness and perhaps intended as showcase. I'll simply have to take my business elsewhere. Luckily, there are numerous options for...
Read moreWent in here about a month ago, and brought a large clothes basket filled with mostly designer items and a few articles of clothing that would appeal to teens ( A&F, Hollister, American Eagle, Windsor, etc.). I walked in, signed in, and was told it would be about a 45 minute long wait. I waited a little over an hour, but I was okay with that since the last location I went to had me wait an hour and a half and I HAD to remain in the store the entire time. I went up for my offer after I received a phone call stating that it was ready and the woman at the counter offered to pay me $3 for a brand new clutch (tags still on) that I got from Just Fab and a t-shirt. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but $3? Really? I could see if the bag was tattered or gently used, but it was BRAND NEW and the rest of the items I had were in better condition than that t-shirt. They didn't take my Coach bag, high heels from Bakers (worn once to prom) or any of the other items I had that were in much better condition. Then, to add insult to injury, the woman at the counter cut herself and got blood all over one of the t-shirts I was trying to sell. Her immediate solution to the issue was to apologize to me and offer to donate my shirt.....yes....donate it. I came to SELL it NOT donate it. I could've donated it myself and now that it has blood on it who would want that? She was going to "donate" it to the trash can as soon as I left and I knew that. Don't waste your time here. Go somewhere else to sell your items. I suggest the Canton or Novi locations. Buying? Their selection isn't bad. That's why I'm giving them 1 star. However, selling, customer service, staff? Z...
