This is by far the best Farmer's Market I've ever been to. One, it's a great excuse to explore the UNC campus which is beautiful! I had no idea, art installations and plantings that replace lawn.
I visited the first time on the day students were moving into the dorm with their parents. It was sweet. I also parked on the wrong side of campus so found my way to the market along paths.
I think that I'll do that all the time now, because I enjoyed the energy of the campus and the extra steps.
The Market is very popular. I arrived just before 10 and wished I'd showed up at 9. Some of my favorite Asheville farms and crafters come here. A great collection of veggies, fruit, honey and meat. I enjoyed sampling bitters for the first time. Also great gifts made by our crafting community.
I bought myself a truly masterful bouquet of flowers that made me happy for a week. It included some basil sprigs that I cooked with and quite a few things that dry well for winter display.
While the other Asheville Farmer's Markets are amazing, too, this one really struck me as offering...
Read moreA potentially very nice farmers market in a lovely location. Last visit observed multiple young able-body appearing folks cut the line to park in accessible spots. I tried to convince myself that the young couple that bounded out of the car with their designer dog was just awaiting their placard, and that the next couple was too... Speaking of dogs, way too many, huge dogs too... when the folks at every stand are asking you to keep your beast back, maybe leave your small horse in the car buddy.
The common thread here is a lovely farmers market where the staff or volunteers are not empowered or don't care to help make the space safe and accessible for all. I'll share my feedback separately, but it was disheartening to see no oversight of this market.
Young rich Ashevillians who would bring a designer dog or park in an accessible spot without the need, please just have your food delivered to you rather than spoil this spot for folks who are looking for the family and...
Read more4/29/2023: After arriving at 8:30 a.m. there was lots available for those who eat baked goods. Since I follow a low-carb diet, I bypassed those vendors. Not a lot of variety of veggies and fruits because it is early in the season. Did purchase three cheeses (including one with ramps) from Three Graces. Got a couple more cheeses from Spinning Spider Creamery. Lots of plantings of herbs, veggies, and flowers this weekend.
Because we arrived after 11 a.m. on a holiday weekend, many things were sold out--including the cheese we like from Three Graces and many fruits and veggies. Good selection is available, if you arrive early. Glad to see most of the vendors have returned after Covid. Most things picked over by 10:30,...
