I returned to Body By Kariim after almost 3 months after state mandated shelter in place. With the shelter in place being lifted, I had a tremendous amount of anxiety returning to the gym. My hubby had a heart transplant almost 3 years ago and we must take pre-cautions. Kariim explained the processes that they put in place to keep the gym sanitized and safe. He also advised that I can wear a mask and gloves while working out. That was extremely reassuring.
My firstly back I sat in the car for a few minutes. My heart was racing as I looked in the window and saw clients working out. It was extremely stressful. Then I saw Kariim and Laquisha wiping equipment down, clients were more than properly distanced and utilizing the outdoor space. I remembered feeling so much relief! I jumped out of the car, upon entry Kariim took my temperature and we got to work! It has been awesome being back! You might get a "don't forget to wash your hands from Laquisha". I have no concerns working out at Body By Kariim in the era of coronavirus. I sincerely appreciate that they follow the state mandated guidelines AND take the extra mile to make sure all clients are safe and the gym is thoroughly sanitized. Thanks Kariim and Laquisha!
I began working with Body By Kariim in November 2015 via a referral from a friend. The decision to hire Body By Kariim changed my life! My journey has been an interesting one.
Body by Kariim is not the Atlanta status quo fitness studio and neither are Kariim and Laquisha (the owners). Hereās how they are different: 1: They asked a ton of questions to map out my personal journey. They are both committed and vested to my personal journey. I walk away with tons of information on how to navigate my fitness and nutrition journey. BBK operates a no-judgement zone. Kariim and Laquisha listen to comprehend my needs and goals. They are accountability partners. When they see that the progress is stagnant, they dig deep to find out why. No yelling or berating. The environment is safe and encouraging. Every session Iām asked, āHow are you feeling today? Any soreness or things I need to look out for?ā This is to make sure that I donāt aggravate what is already aggravated AND to ensure I have an injury free workout. Form and execution matter. Kariim and Laquisha are passionate about fitness and nutrition AND the people that trust them enough to become a client.
I have an extremely busy scheduleI between running my business and being a caregiver for my hubby who had a heart transplant. I drive from KENNESAW to train with BBK 4 days per week. it took me 4 years to get seismic results because I had the mindset that most of us have...You can out train (workout) a poor diet. The first 3 years I lost weight, but could not maintain it. I was NOT following the guidance given by Kariim. In 2019, I began to follow the BBK blueprint and we got control of my diet and we are 42lbs down and body fat down with mental and spiritual clarity. Also, I was pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure...GONE!
Do yourself a favor, if you are looking to make a shift in your overall wellness (fitness, nutrition and beyond), email or call Body By Kariim. That consultation in 2015 changed my life forever and continues to do so. I was and an worth it and so are you! I am a Body By...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently completed a 6-month, 2X a week session (July ā21- Jan ā22) with Kariim. When I started in July, I told him that I didnāt have a lot of weight to lose, but I wanted to feel comfortable in a bathing suit for my 50th birthday in October. My first weigh-in I was at 196.1 lbs. and at 5ā9ā, I told him Iād be happy if I could be at 180 lbs. on my birthday. He said calmly, āI think we can get down to 175 lbs.ā And I remember not giving that statement that much energy, because I just wanted to be 180 lbs. But along the way, with his encouragement, advice, guidance, and tough and targeted workouts, I WANTED to get to 175 lbs. and on the day before my birthday, I weighed in at 174.4 lbs. On my last day at the gym, I weighed in at 174.8 lbs. and yesterday I weighed in at home at 173 lbs. Altogether, I lost a total of 21.3 lbs., 3.5% of body fat and 35.5 total inches all over my body. I have actually gotten down to 172.6 lbs., but I still havenāt mastered the eating plan that Kariim encourages, which is why my body fat percentage did not drop as much as I wanted.
Kariim is not the type of trainer who yells at you like a drill sergeant, yet his quiet, stern presence makes you want to give it your all (at least thatās how I felt). Heās personable and shared a wealth of knowledge about the difference between being āfitā and being āhealthyā. He not only helped transformed my body, more importantly, he helped transform my mind and how I feel about fitness & exercise. Iām determined to make it a part of my life now, like brushing my teeth. I actually work out when I donāt want to, which is proof for me, that Iām determined to make exercise a regular part of my life and hold myself accountable. Now that Iām happy with the number on the scale, my main focus is fitness and building muscle. I still have a long way to go, but I realize that slow and steady wins the race. I bought some resistance bands to assist with this part of my journey and because of my sessions with Kariim, Iām no longer intimidated by gym machines (as I was before), so if I wanted to go back to a commercial gym again, I could with confidence this time.
Someone asked me on New Yearās Eve what was the best thing I did for myself in 2021. And besides graduating with my masterās degree in May, I would absolutely have to say that working out with Kariim was the best thing I did for myself. He absolutely gave me what I needed, and Iāll be forever grateful. (You know that little indention/definition at the top of your arm, near your shoulder? I always wanted that, lol! And sometimes when I pass myself in the mirror, I can finally see it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had surgery last year after rupturing my quad tendon while on vacation. Recovery and rehab for that type of injury is a very slow process. Especially at 47. After getting through Physical therapy I wanted to take my recovery to the next level. When I first came to BBK, I could not do much in terms of leg exercises and didn't have a lot of strength. I don't think I could do more than 4-5 push-ups from my knees. Walking up hills was painful and lunges were nearly impossible. Even doing simple jumping jacks caused me pain in my leg. Kariim assessed where I was and started me out slowly, increasing intensity over time. 8 months laer, I am now able to push some decent weight on the leg press, do box jumps, lunges and recently light sprints. My overall strength has also greatly increased.
I really appreciate that they practice what they preach. They really know what they are talking about and are true fitness professionals. I mean... have you seen the photos on the website? And yes, they really do look like that. All without the judgement or pretentiousness. If I was struggling or needed some encouragement (which would happen often with work and family responsibilities), Kariim would provide suggestions on incorporating different foods or strategies. If I was going out of town, he would provide workout routines.
You will see different body shapes and fitness levels at BBK. So don't think you have to "get in shape first" before starting. They emphasize health and fitness as a lifestyle. They really work with you on identifying and incorporating small changes over time. Something that can be maintained long term no matter your fitness level. For example, Kariim would often talk to me about walking and I resisted for along time, thinking that I had to ALWAYS do some highly intense workout ALL the time. Until one day I finally listened and followed his advice. I had no idea that doing something as simple as getting up from my desk and going for a quick walk around the parking deck at work would make a big...
