Lately it feels like if you are not playing pickleball you live under a rock! It feels like the trend of playing just came out of nowhere. Since everyone is raving about it I wanted to give it a try.
A little side bar: as a child I recall my parents playing each other in tennis. Within the last year, my mother has become obsessed with the game of pickleball. When I shared this news with my friends, a few of them agreed that they too enjoy the game.
Ok- I found this spot via a google search. After browsing the website I discovered that they offer lessons called pickleball 101 for beginners. This appeared to be just what I needed. I asked a friend to join me and she agreed. We booked and paid online without any issues.
The center has a dedicated parking lot. Our lesson was at 4:30pm. We arrived about 10 minutes early and had no problem finding a parking spot.
When we walked in there is a front desk area. The staff asked us if we needed Racquets and pointed us in the direction of the courts. Shannon ( the coach) advised us to just practice on a court as he finished up with his last lesson.
The class consisted of 6 people. I love that they keep the group small. Shannon took us through a number of drills and actually provided insightful critique and suggestions on how to improve. Overall I LOVED this class. It is clear that Shannon loves the game, and enjoys helping people improve their game.
Overall- this is an awesome place to both learn and play pickleball. My only suggestion is for the place to get AC! While it was better than being in direct sunlight- it did get toasty in the building. Please come prepared for that.
I will be checking this spot out often! I might just jump on the pickleball...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I took the Pickleball 101 series with Coach Shannon. I had never picked up a paddle before my first lesson so I was nervous! Coach Shannon made it fun and easy to get startedā¦he begins each lesson with a summary of what skill we were focusing on that day and explained how we would spend our time. He made us feel welcome and we began to have fun right from the start. Each lesson of the series of 4 can be taken individually and you donāt have to take them all if you donāt want to. In addition you donāt have to take them in a certain order. You also have many different times each week to continue taking lessons which is really helpful if your work week is irregular. You pay for each class individually so thereās no issue of buying a set of classes and then losing money if you have to unexpectedly have to miss a class. Also you can take the series more than once to get the skills down. The lessons were thorough and so much fun. Finally and most importantly, Coach Shannon is the best! So friendly, so helpful and a great teacher. Loved how he didnāt make me feel embarrassed when I messed up or couldnāt grasp a skill. He is patient and a joy to be around. Great sense of humor too! Anyone looking to begin pickleball, donāt hesitate to head over there and get started. Youāll be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife & I are out-of-towners who played here 4 times over a 2 week period, and also took 1 intermediate to advanced clinic. The clinic was great - covered several areas, was well paced & useful. It was early fall so the outside temps were in the 80-60s. Since there's no a/c in the court area it gets quite warm when the outside temps are warm. They tend to call their open play sessions 'socials' & allow 12 players for 2 courts, so 4 are sitting between games (hence the social part). And though they group them by player ratings (which are self assessed), after playing in 3.0 & 3.5 sessions & watching 4.0+ sessions, it seemed the players in the 3.0 games were correctly rated (or slightly above), while several of those in the 3.5 & 4.0 ratings groups really didn't belong in those groups & should have been in a lower rated group. Perhaps staff can work on that so the games are more fun for all. Last, they recently installed permanent nets, which are awesome - sturdy...
