A Mexican restaurant that everyone can enjoy! We've been coming here since they opened years ago. What makes Agavero different: Most neighborhoods are full of tex-mex restaurants claiming to have "Authentic Mexican Food" when in reality all they have are various ways to consume a tortilla with rice, beans, cheese, and a protein. Many Americans are happy with that, in fact, they expect to be able to get their nachos (which was technically originally created in Mexico, but it was created for an American palate). I've seen truly authentic Mexican restaurants fail, not because their food wasn't amazing, but because they didn't offer americanized menu items. So what's so great about Agavero? While they do offer all the tex-mex staples like nachos, fajitas, burritos, etc. they also offer truly authentic dishes like my favorite chilaquiles (pictured). I usually opt for the authentic plates, but I have to admit their tex-mex options do look very tempting! The food: Some of the best chilaquiles I've ever had! If you prefer more common tex-mex dishes, I can attest to their nachos and taco salad (both plates I've stolen bites from my wife) and they are both top notch! I've been here with up to 20 people from work, and I've never heard a complaint, so I think it's safe to say whatever you want here it will be good! The service: It's very accommodating. I've been here as a party of 2 to a party of 20, food always comes fast, hot, and delicious. Drinks are usually refilled in a timely fashion, on occasion they slip up, but not enough to deduct a star. The atmosphere: It's nice, not cheesy, but you certainly know you're in a Mexican restaurant. They have an awesome lucha libre mural which was kept from the previous Mexican restaurant that was in this space, but I think it was a good decision to keep it. They have a variety of types of tables, you're sure to find one that's comfortable to your group. Pricing: You expect your local Mexican restaurant to be affordable, Agavero does not disappoint on this end either! They have very good lunch specials, but even their dinner menu is fair. If you're looking for a place to eat Mexican food (whatever your idea of Mexican food is) this place will not disappoint. Great for any sized group of people.

Wife and I came in today for lunch (we had never heard of this place but were supposed to meet friends who bowed out due to the weather) so we decided to stay and eat. Very glad we did. What a great surprise. Upon walk-up it doesn't appear like a typical "Mexican food restaurant" and by that I mean most Mexican restaurants around are stand alone buildings; this one is in a large multi-unit building, with ample parking and outdoor seating. Inside are table and also booths, place is midsized for a restaurant. Place is very clean and well staffed, and they also have a full service bat. We were greeted by the host Benjamin who also ended up being our server. He seated us at a booth as we requested and brought us chips and salsa. The chips were very fresh and crispy and the salsa was thick, tangy and delicious; we also had the queso dip which you can get with jalapeños or not. Dip was good. We ended up ordering the Carne Asada with flour tortilla, asking that out beef get cooked medium. The food came out pretty fast, maybe 10 minutes. The plates were hot and the food was fresh. The carne asada comes with beef strips cooked as you like, red and green peppers and onions. Side of rice and beans with lettuce, Pico de gallo and sour cream. The steak was perfect with a nice seasoning, and everything was grilled perfectly, onions and peppers all excellent. The prices were modest, and one plate served both myself and wife just right, but if you're hungry you may not wish to share. It comes with 3 flour tortillas so if you share someone is odd-man-out. Service was efficient and professional and Benjamin was a great host. Parking is close by and ample. Location is great. Highly recommend and will return as this now is my favorite "local to downtown" Mexican restaurant.

Tasty and fresh! Customer Service was excellent. Went for lunch on a Tuesday and was seated immediately. Ambience is clean and relaxed. We were seated immediately and a min later received a hot bowl of chips and salsa. Chips were freshly made and the salsa was good and flavorful. We started with frozen margaritas (Frozen Mango Margarita and the Frozen Strawberry Margarita with sugar rims) which were strong, sweet and delicious. We ordered the Lunch Specials of Enchiladas Rancheros which is two chicken enchiladas topped with cheese dip, served with guacamole salad, beans & rice. Also, ordered the Enchilada Servando which is one chicken enchilda covered with jalapeno nacho cheese, pico de gallo, avacado and served with rice, broccoli & cauliflower. We waited no more than 10mins for our food to be brought out and it was hot and well flavored. The quality of the ingredients you can tell are fresh and everything tasted to our liking. Lunch ends at 3pm so to receive the specials you have to put in your order before 3pm. We shared the churros drizzled with chocolate for dessert which was enough for 2 people. Only thing I would change is have the chocolate on the side as some of the churros were oversaturated with chocolate. The bathroom was very clean and decorated with Spanish or Mexican tile...very nice and cozy. We had a excellent waiter, older male, who was very attentive and made sure our glasses were always full and our chips and salsa were refilled. We love Mexican food and have eaten at several places in Atlanta (many others have been a travesty) and this place by far is one of our favorites and will be back again.

They refused to make me a vegetarian taco or vegetarian chimichanga.. they said they could only make vegetable fajitas or cheese enchiladas because veggie tacos and veggie chimichangas were not on the menu.

Mmk I get some restaurants refusing to go off menu but this was not a high dollar top-chef restaurant. I literally was asking for the same grilled veggies on the taco without meat… like I’m making your life MORE simple - one less step of scooping product onto a tortilla… and I was willing to PAY THE SAME price as if it had meat on it 💀

Our server was very nice, and she even felt bad for having to deliver the message from the chef after going back a few times to see if they would make me one or the other dish and recommended the veggie fajitas.. so I did not eat, because no one is going to force me to pay for a large meal when, the whole point of two tacos, is so I don’t have to carry around leftovers walking with my mom around the area.

My mom who came in from out of town felt bad and wanted to go somewhere else but I told her to get her meal so she could eat and the we left and went to a better restaurant for my meal and drinks and dessert because I set aside funds for a fun night out for us.

This place has potential for sure, I LOVED the artwork (as an artist they definitely did well with promoting the artistic vibe Atlanta is doing so well with) and the reviews were great, that’s why we went! I was soo excited the margarita was DELICIOUS & we loved the salsa..

Then just after I was told the chef refused to make me a veggie taco they then began blasting music so loud at around 5pm on a Friday like we were in a club that the children at the table next to us started crying.

I felt like it was just a disaster to be honest & who knows? Maybe it was just a bad night for the establishment, but unfortunately for them, that made it a bad night for me and a one of the few times a year I get to see my mom.

So, yep, we definitely had a negative experience here and I worked in restaurants for 15 years to get through high-school, college, and beyond. So we are usually pretty forgiving, but it just was bad (almost comically, after the children started crying)!

And like any negative review I make on here, I try to wait and not troll an establishment, & to see if I felt better about it… and an month later, I don’t, it just was awful, mainly because I wanted to show my mom a good evening 💔

Good luck y’all, I hope that was just a random bad night as your reviews told us we’d have a GREAT time anddd not be eating at another restaurant after...

A Mexican restaurant that everyone can enjoy! We've been coming here since they opened years ago.

I never write reviews nor bad reviews, being in the industry I get circumstances and I get that sometimes it isn't always what it seems when you get bad service. But tonight was just inexcusable to me. This is the second time I have been to this establishment and have gotten below par service. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the appetizer and margaritas were good. Sat down at the bar and waited 5 minutes to be served when there was only two other people at the bar and the rest of the dinning area slow as well. When I first sat down I saw what seemed to be the bar manager with his back turned away from the restaurant on his phone not noticing that we had been there. Finally the bartender came up asking if we were here to pick up and order. We we said no he got our drink order. I thought it was odd that he did not ask for our ID's to begin with, but he asked in the middle of making our drinks. We got our drinks and were going to order an appetizer. It took an additional 10 minutes for us to get our order in. Not because the bartender asked but because we had to ask him. Mean while most of the staff was standing around trying new cocktails instead of us getting the service that we expected. When the appetizer came I was low on my drink, half way through the appetizer came I had nothing in my drink. (It was just was us two at the bar at this point) we had to go out of our way to request for another drink. I soon got my check after this. Watching the staff socialize and drink while i wasn't getting served at all hit a nerve with me. If my staff would treat guests like this it would be inexcusable. The bartender never mentioned his name but I made sure to look on the check it was Juan022 If I ever go back I will make sure to try to sit at a table and give the servers a chance. Like I said the food and drinks weren't bad. It was just the service which is the main reason people...
