Great Park! I enjoyed this park immensely. Very peaceful, large mature trees and wandering pathways.
The vibe was a little edgy or weird from a few of the other visitors though. I definitely got the feeling that tall, white elderly people weren't welcome. If eye contact was made, I waved, said hello, smiled, then kept walking, minding my own business.
Lots of staring and some odd looks, like people were disgusted maybe? Who knows. I just kept walking. Yes, I was fully dressed, business casual wearing a sun hat.
I did get turned around and asked another woman my age (she was black) if she could please point to where I needed to to go to get back to 10th and Argonne Ave. She was so very kind, pulled out her cell phone (which I should have done) and showed me where I was and which direction to head. I was getting disoriented and overheated. I was definitely not thinking very clearly, so her help was greatly appreciated. Getting older isn't pretty.
I made it back to my vehicle safe. Had passed some of the same people I had passed before. I just kept looking ahead and kept quiet this time.
One guy sitting on a bench flipped me a "double bird" I have to think this one was dealing with a mental illness maybe? I've worked with people who are disconnected and angry before, so while it makes me sad, I'm okay with seeing occasional, inappropriate affect. I'm okay, they're out enjoying their day, ..the world keeps turning.
Nobody was violent, no threats or anything like that. I saw some amazing landscapes and enjoyed the fresh air. I need to come earlier in the day next time, maybe before 9am. My walk was in the mid afternoon on a swampy day.
Great work on maintaining this park! It's...

The water is clean & not so chlorinated that your eyes are on fire. I'm disabled & usually use a wheelchair for mobility, but I can walk short distances slowly & with a handrail. The zero entrance area to the biggest part of the pool (2-3 feet) has 2 parallel handrails that enabled me to walk into the water up to my waist all by myself. I haven't been able to do that since 2010! It was so empowering & fulfilling I almost cried. Even so, I could feel the lifeguards keeping an eye on me just in case. The age group was from babies sitting in floatie rings to seniors. There's also a splash pad, lazy river, whirlpool & a separate 4 lane lap pool. There are umbrellas to shade under but no chairs due to Covid restrictions. (Right now masks are still required when not in the water) We brought our own chairs with us. There's a grassy area away from the water to sit & eat, tan, dry off or just chill. One part that stood out was at quarter to every hour there is Adult Swim. For 15 minutes all kids have to leave the pool. Then everyone can return to All Swim on the hour. Upon leaving, a Senior Staff person asked me if my visit was ok & did someone help me use the handicapped apparatus to get lowered into the water. Wow!!! Didn't even know they do that. Next time I'll take photos. It was a great experience & my family & I will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a very nice swimming pool in the heart of Piedmont Park! Opened seasonally and sponsored by the City of Atlanta. For a small price (five dollars) you can go in. If you come between 3pm-5pm the pool can even be entered for free, but this may be a temporary action. Thatās a great service! See the website for the most accurate situation. The pool is lovely to see with the old buildings and has four lanes for lap swimming, a beach like pool with a gently sloping floor ideally for young kids. The main attraction is the current channel and the ācentrifugeā which lets you float around, very much fun! And some fountains for the smallest children. If you bring your own padlock, you can even have your own free locker.
It is therefore surprising to find out that they have a policy called āadult swim onlyā, every hour from .45 till the hour. No kids allowed in the water⦠no kidding! That I find a weird rule and not very inclusive for families with children. Especially if you have paid for entrance, kids can only swim for 45 minutes per hour while adults can swim for 60 minutes. I would understand it better if you would organise complete adult hours, if you must⦠This is actually the only negative point I can mention. For the rest itās a gem inside Piedmont park. Would go there again though and try to not to be bothered about that strange rule to exclude young...
