Our group of seven decided to brunch at the nook after checking out their menu and hearing about their giant 32 Oz bloody mary's. We arrived and notified the host one member of our group requires a service dog and were told 45 minutes for a table. (Understandable for a party of seven.) We left a phone number and went to the park across the street. After 90 minutes we decided to walk back to restaurant to check the status of our table. It was another 20 minutes before we were seated and the service dog was denied entry so our friend had to take him back to the car.
We were greeted by an enthusiastic and helpful server named Terrick. He suggested a few drinks and entrees and gave us time to study the menu. Beyond the awesome service Terrick gave us and the killer Bloody Mary's no one from our group had positive things to say about The Nook.
Things started to go downhill after an employee ran another table's food to us.. coincidentally a member of our group had ordered that same thing with one entree 'to go' and began eating. The to go entree was removed from the table to be "boxed up" while the other 6 members of our party were still waiting. No big deal, most of my friends are or have been in the service industry and we understand table numbers can be confusing. But shortly after, our server informed us that someone else's food was delivered to our table by mistake and that the rest of our entrees were about 10 minutes out.
Twenty minutes later the rest of our entrees arrived. Not even 30 seconds after that someone who was prompted by the manager, Robin, removed my boyfriends entree from in front of him and told him there had been a mistake and it wasn't meant to go to our table, but our entree should follow shortly. (My boyfriend ordered the same entree as our friend who received his food early by mistake.) We told him not to worry, because we could share my bowl of French Onion soup while we waited. A few spoonfuls into the soup my boyfriend pulled a 2 inch long stringy piece of white plastic from his mouth. We stopped eating the soup and notified our server, Terrick, who offered to get us another bowl but we decided we would just wait for the entree. side note Don't order the chicken and biscuits. The chicken was over cooked and the batter was so hard it scraped up the roof of my friends mouth. (Not changing the fryer oil frequently enough)
Terrick assured us the soup would be removed from the bill and our entree was coming. It wasn't until everyone in our group was finished eating and ready to pay before my boyfriend decided to speak to a manager about our entree which never arrived. Robin, the curt manager who came over told us he could not get our to go order because they ran out of waffles. What? We saw it on a plate in front of us. I told him we needed a to go order for our friend and that we would take the entree we never received to go. He took the food off of our bill, but was very unpleasant to deal with. I would much rather have had a $200 tab and had everything come out right than leave hungry and get a discount.
At the end of the meal, after we were paying and waiting for Terrick to return our credit cards Robin walked over with papers trying to explain why they denied our friends seizure alert dog entry (FEDERALLY ILLEGAL).
If you decide to give The Nook a try request Terrick or Edward, both were super helpful and...
Read moreI came here last Friday afternoon, and I couldn't have been more pleased! We arrived around 2pm, and were seated on the patio right away. The patio is covered, and is heated, with a Winter Ski Lodge theme. Quite unique, and definitely pleasant. They even supply pillows and blankets on the benches on the patio!
We were greeted by a very pleasant server, who offered several unique cocktails, and we ordered The Bloody Best. It's literally a 32 oz. Bloody Mary topped with steak, tater tots, blue cheese stuffed olives, pepperoncinis, lemon, and lime. I was quite impressed. Not only was it amazing on the eyes, but it was actually GOOD. You can tell they didn't use cheap bloody mary mix!
We started with an order of the Buffalo Totchos, which is a HUGE plate of tater tots covered with Buffalo chicken, blue cheese dressing, buffalo sauce, and blue cheese crumbles. They were AMAZING. My date and I had more than enough to share, and definitely felt like we got our money's worth.
The next part is the best. My date ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad, and it was great. I tried some, and the tuna was flavorful, the salad was fresh, and quite delicious. I had the Southern Comfort Burger, and let me tell you. It totally lives up to its hype. It's a burger. Stuffed with macaroni and cheese. Topped with cheddar cheese, and this Southern Comfort BBQ sauce. The sauce was slightly sweet, and somewhat spicy. All in all, this burger was HEAVENLY. As it was served with a side item as well, I opted for the onion rings. THEY WERE HUGE. And quite delicious! The meal was so huge, I couldn't finish it. Definitely worth the money spent.
Our server, throughout it all, was attentive, yet not obnoxious. He had several other tables as well, but our drinks never went empty. He offered us other drinks after we had slain that bloody mary monster, but we were quite tapped when all was said and done. A delight, all in all.
The manager stopped by after we'd gotten our entrees to ask how everything was. She hung around for a moment, and chit chatted with us. She was quite personable as well. This place really seems to know how to impress!
I will definitely be back to The Nook. This place has it going on! It's rare, especially in Atlanta, to find great food paired with good service that doesn't seem contrived and fake. This place is a rare breed. I can't wait to enjoy their Sunday Funday!...
Read more**Update: the owner, Katherine, reached out right away to apologize and offer clarity on what happened that day. The Nook needs one additional entrance on the patio to allow all pets, not just service animals. Looking forward to seeing if they can make it happen, and appreciate the swift response and courteous response, as well as her commitment to retraining the staff who took an unprofessional approach to the situation. I’ve updated my review from 1 to 3 stars.
My friends and I love the nook, we come every Thursday for karaoke. The management, bar staff, and karaoke DJ know us well and by first name. We arrived this afternoon on a Sunday, the first busy and mild day of the spring, and they were very busy. I have a two-year-old Staffy mix, and my friend has a 10 month old Australian doodle mix we wanted to bring on the patio. Most patios in Atlanta are dog friendly. We noted another dog was on the patio already. My friends and I never assume a patio is dog friendly since not all are, but our friend went inside to inquire, and the staff responded that only one of our dogs would be allowed on the patio, and the other would need to be “tied to the bike rack“. We all know that none of the regular staff who work at the Nook would suggest such an unusual arrangement, so because we all wanted our dogs to be able to join us on the patio, we chose not to give our business to them today. We will be back Thursday, but we have decided not to return on a weekend day with our dogs because they are not welcome unless they are service animals. Totally understand the Nook is a private business and can choose how they want to allow animals on their patio, but it seemed selective and unfair how they do choose to allow pets. We love the Nook and, as I said, will definitely back, but this particular execution of protocol seemed inconsistent and unfair, and we will definitely not be back on a weekend...
